He has a personality that always like to put himself first in conversations like they know more than you. Even when he asks for help. This neighbor is really driving me crazy. How have others dealt with people, like this- peticularly living in a strata. I like to be diplomatic, and he seems to exploit me, I feel like crossing the line. I might of already crossed it with some comments. Somebody please help, I am going mad.
Thanks
Steve

Make this person your best friend. You will benefit.

The Socratic method can help in this situation. I'd not directly confront his assumption that he is smart. In fact, just pretend he is. He might be smarter than he appears. Perhaps he is insecure and wants to compensate.

If he makes an assertion, ask him about it. Why does he believe these thijngs? What facts does he have to back up his statements? What's his thought process?

I'd learn to be genuinely interested in his ideas and his thought process. This might be an interested personal challenge. You are likely to learn a lot about yourself by engaging positively with this person.

I'd also ask yourself why it is that this person is so annoying. For most people, the dark side of themselves is what most annoying about other people. The dark side, you see, are those aspects of yourself that you hate. Most people deny their dark side and associate aspects of themselves.

Could it be that you "think that you are smart" about some things when in fact deep down you feel that you are not? (I'll bet you are saying that's not true for me.)

It would be best to make this person your best friend and learn to accept this aspect of yourself.
