I'm still stuck! She's black and will be 35-50lbs and she's a hound mix.
I don't know her personality yet. I don't get her for a few weeks.

I DON'T want common names like Chloe, Sophie, Bella, Misty, Penny, Dolly, Molly, Lilly, Cleo, Sadie, Shadow, Midnight, Sky, Sara, Chelsea, Princess, Paris, Sweetie, Honey, Zoe,

Something short and sweet and a little bit different.

I like to either pick a name that just comes to me when I first meet the animal, or find some name that means something in another language. Here are some ones that mean "black" in another language (according to the website linked below):

'Ele (Hawaiian)
Devaki (Indian)
Duff (Gaelic)
Dulais (Welsh)
Jedda (English)
Kali (Sanskrit)
Kalidas (Sanskrit)
Kara (means "friend" in Gaelic, and "black" in Turkish; that's kind of cool)
Krishna (Sanskrit)
Mela (Greek)
Melcia (Greek)
Mellie (Greek)
Milana (Czech)
Milena (Czech)
Montsho (African)
Nowfaleena (Indian)
Sable (English)
Shahla (Arabic)

You could go with a mythology type name, like Isis, Luna, Eris, Branwen, Nott, Freya, Artemis, Athena, Hera, Calypso, Persephone, or Aine (pronounced Ahn-yah). They are all unique and rarely used, but still sound pretty (in my opinion, at least.)

If you want pronunciation details, or information on who/what the names are based on, feel free to write me and I will be happy to fill you in on the details. :)

Good luck with your new puppy!

Effi is a really cool name!!! It's very unique and original yet it isn't too made up. I love the name Effi!!! Because she is a hound mix I find it suits her even more because she is a mix.
