We had just dropped it off there & she was moving it w/ the door open & wrapped the door around a pole. Anyway it took him months to put a used piece of crap (wrong color) door on & fix the car. We had to have a rental car for 3 weeks because he had the car for like 6 weeks! He said he would make $100 payments each month until the rental fee was paid for. The rental came up to $500-$200 it would have cost us to have him fix the car, leaving him owing us $300. He made one payment of $100 & has owed us $200 for the past several months, plus a paint job or nicer door for the car, all of which he agreed to do, but we didn't get it in writting. (I told my husband to, but he never listens!) This is supposed to be a ligit business...he rents a space & has a bs card, but anyone can do that right? What can I do, if anything, at this point??

You could take him to small claims court. Small claims court allows you to take people to court without an attorney for sums (usually) less than $15,000. (Although this varies by state).

Good Luck.

Ok confront the mechanic once more and tell him the money and work he owes you is outstanding. Do this yourself don't leave it up to your hubby. Mine is the same he wont ask for certain things or wont confront people. I don't like it either but if I am getting screwed over I wont have it. Then tell him if he doesn't pay you in a week you will take legal action. This should put the wind up him and if he doesn't pay take him to small claims court. Make sure you make a stand for your rights and good luck.

Seems like everyone spends more time trying to get out of doing what is right anymore..
He should have Insurance for his business, go ask him for the name of it..
then contact them and tell them what happened, he doesn't seem to care what happens..??
If u can't get payment, then go file in Small Claims Court or contact one of the TV reality shows.. perhaps u can re-coop Ur losses..
good luck..

Is he (The Mechanic that Wracked the car) A Registered Business? "Check with BBB or your local Register of Businesses" in your City? If he's not a Real Registered Business and nothing was in writing there's not much you can do beyond "Giving Him a Hard Time".

Well you could take him to court. And sue him for all damages. He is totally liable. Check to see if he has liability insurance. You can also call your own insurance company and have the car fixed. (is what you should of done in the first place) They will collect from this slacker.

If he rents a space, the landlord requires him to carry insurance. He may not be willing to disclose to you who the insurance carrier is. My recommendation is to let your auto insurance handle it first. They will notify him of your claim and request his insurance information. If you have full coverage, some policies will take care of the repair in advance and collect fom him or his insurance company later. Less headache for you. How do I know abou this? I own a couple of shops. Unlike your case, my guys did not cause any damage, but people have tried to file claims against me for dented bumpers and broken windshields. Their insurance companies tell me if I dispute, they'll fix their client's cars, then collect from me later. But when I send them video from my cameras, I never hear from them again.
