Chav is a pigeon hole a phrase no doubt coined by journalist’s on high wages(?) and limited writing ability (considering the elite education most of them have had a disgrace). Working Class is an out dated concept but the two phrases seem to contradict each other.
It is assumed that Chav's are dosers who don’t work and are on benefits so technically they wouldn’t be working people since the stereotype would imply that they don’t work.
Forget about these outdated concepts You seem to have an issue against thuggish behavior that dominates our buses spews up on our city streets and makes some areas unpleasant much too often. No nothing wrong with that, but just remember that there individual people that are doing that and should not be dismissed cause of their background or the clothes they wear. Although it can be more consistent and less contained in areas where there is more unemployment and less finance prospery(often the victims of such behavior are honest working people Ethnic minorities more often the victim of violent crime then the perpetrates) Crap behavior is a problem that is present in all walks of life you can see from the behavior of Prince Harry and other near do wells that this behavior is not exclusive to one social group(putting people in groups is never helpful since most people within that group have their own individual traits and beliefs when stereotypes and labels are applied often by so called experts people start to self stereo type getting worn down by constant presumptions).
The shackles of Class should have fallen in the late seventies. No mater how divided and uneven the society has become after Blair(Society under siege us and them mentality) do not lose the ability to think individually and openly about matters since you will be a better person for it in the long run and life’s experiences will be more rewarding.

Chavs are in a class of their own. Their dress code appears to be track suits with trainers (I've even seen a guest at a wedding dressed like this) Ladies wear between 3 and 10 pairs of gold earrings at the same time, men have shaved heads as do their male children. Women dress in track suit bottoms teamed with a football shirt and trainers or ugg type boots. Both men and women seem to have a surfeit of tattoos and they have at least 3 children in tow. They invariably name their children Chardonnay, Clarette, Chelsea, Keeley, Billy, Ricky, Jordan etc. etc.
Their passtimes include:- swearing at their children, smoking and having more tattoos.
Ok, so I'm generalising but believe me I have seen these people and they are genuinely awful.

Not at all. Chavs are generally given a hard time because of their bad style and bad attitudes. To me the working classes make up an essential part of the UK economy. As john lennon said - a working class hero is something to be. I dont think he was singing about little gits hanging round the spar in their all black sports atire, drinking cheap hooch, talking crap, and giving grief to people that pass

H. Potter is totally right. Chavs are a sub-class and they are always on benefits - so not working class at all, in that they never do any work.

Chavs are nothing more than scum. If you don't believe me, come to Plymouth and see for yourself! They are a total waste of space and a drain on society.
