Ever since I've been a kid, my aunt has had an obscene amount of giraffes in her house. Creeped out by the sight of about 30 long-necked creatures, some with rubber, malleable legs, others carved out of wood, boring a hole into my psyche with their large, shiny eyes, I asked her if she really likes them. She said "no, someone bought me one initially and I acted like I liked it, and then everyone started buying me them". How do you handle such a situation, or do you carry with it to your deathbed?

You have to snap. Just once and word will get around. Say "if i get one more frucking giraffe I'm going to shove it up your freaking asswhole."

It's clear to me that she must be getting something out of it or she would have surely asked family and friends to stop buying these giraffes as gifts. Perhaps she liked the attention and care people showed her. I mean that is pretty special to have so many go and buy you what they think you like to collect. Also, if you don't like something someone buys you and you don't want to hurt any feelings give the item away or regift to someone else. Good luck with those giraffes.

I think the best way would be to say "I've never liked giraffes so stop buying me toy giraffes!" or to drop strong hints to everyone that the collection is now complete and no more are needed. I would recommend that no suggestion is made that she is starting to collect anything else!!

I think after about the third, I would've said to the gift-giver, "Um, thank you for the gift, but do you have a thing for giraffes?" That would most likely start the conversation that would clear up the misunderstanding.

nicely explain.. or lie and say that youve actually "out grown" giraffes, or.. maybe make up a story about recently going to the zoo and being traumatized by one of the giraffes and now you cant see them.

Next time they are coming over....take and disembowel all the stuffing out of the stuffed animals. Hang their carcasses around the room as well as wearing a necklace made of their little stuffed heads around your neck...........if that's too subtle....lemme know!

I'm in that situation. I like pigs and used to collect them, but people are still buying them for me and I just don't care for them anymore.

Well, this made me laugh at least.

XD

I'd say burn them all and replace them with a big stuffed crocodile, then blame it for the deed.

Every one that person buys you wrap it back up and give it back to them, that should give them a hint.

I would just act as if I liked it so I wouldn't hurt her feelings
