My best friend and I have actually discussed this extensively! We have decided it is because we have enough trust in the person in order to leave ourselves raw and exposed to the other person so that they can help us with our troubles, enjoy our dorkiest or most embarrassing moments with us, and give good advice on certain situation. I have found that I have a lot of acquaintances but my true friends are the ones that do this and allow myself to be me and only me around them :)

1 respect
2 totally honest & truthful
3 good will
4 loyalty
5 LOVE

all the above and much more 100% of the time - not just when the friend feels like it

AND when the friend fails you:

have the courage and conscience to APOLOGIZE and pledge never to let it happen again - which will strengthen the trust between you and the friend.

are you a 'friend'?

A good friend should be fun to be with......
He/She should be a good listener for him/her to listen to his/her friend's experiences in life or even his/her problems in life......

,ahhmm...in my own experience,....
for me, a good friend is the one who helps you through ups and downs...the who lifts you up when you're down and join you in fun when you're happy...
and the thing made her special to me is her whole personality, even if it is good or bad. I choose her as my friend because she is a true person, nothing to hide or not being someone else just to be my friend or someone else's friend........

hehehe...
