OK. there is this girl who sits next to me in two of my classes. we talk a little, but not too much out side of class. maybe like a hi or something if we aren't in the same class. she was a previous cancer patient and takes what i think is vicodin twice a day and i think she is becoming addicted to it. she says she wants help to get off of it (idk why she takes it for now anyway, but she is still on a perscription, so i guess she needs it still) and that she is depressed all the time too. she's not like, suicidally depress, just kinda depressed. and what's bad about that is she is creating/perpetuating a cycle. she is depressed b/c she is hooked on pain killers, so she takes one to feel better, and then she is happy, but the pain killer depresses her again and it repeats. i don't know how to help her, i feel like don't know her enough to be he supportive friend. what would you do? and no, im gonna suggest she go to rehab, it isn't that bad...

2 vicodin per day picks her up?????? WHAT???

She's lucky. I have to take 6 at a time to feel anything.. Hmp!

LOL anywho, if she's on a perscription for it then she's supposed to take it. Doctors don't just give that stuff away, they only give it if people really need it. Maybe you should ask her to talk to her doctor about not wanting to be on it anymore. She/he will definitely help her out, don't worry. You sound like a really nice guy though, thinking about her like that. Good luck! :)

Since this girl is in your classes I think it would be a good idea to talk to one or both of your teachers about this. This girl needs a doctor, maybe a counselor, and most of all she needs a friend. Sit by her at lunch once in a while if you have it the same period and keep talking to her. But if you get too friendly she might think you like her or something.

If your school has a website you could email the teacher about it or just talk to them during free time. They should be able to get the girl'l parents involved so she can get professional help. The school counselor is also another good person to turn to.

I'm glad you care about this girl enough to help her. Unfortunately you can't help her yourself - you need to turn to the teacher(s) and/or the school counselor. Is she open to receiving any type of help? Does she really want to stop? Listen, if she doesn't want to stop there may be noone who can help. But give it a try and eventually she might get better.

The easiest thing to do, is for her to just completely -stop- taking them one day and never take them again.

and while that happens - she needs some positive influence in her life, like friends or a boyfriend who won't ditch her (because that could end up really bad.)

you understand where I'm going?
something to focus on every day other than drugs, something makes her feel happy to counteract the depression.

It's something you need a lot of support with, it's fast and easy - that's if everything goes smooth.

when a person is ill and on pain killers, they might get addicted, yes... but your friend may NEED them...

if she is concerned, she needs to talk with her doctor about it....and she could also address her depression. people who have serious illness issues, even in recovery, often become depressed.. it's not unusual.

i dont' think there's a lot to worry about with her medication, but like i said, she can address the issue with her doc

take care.
