is it really worth two in the bush?

Absolutely, because you already have it. Why risk it to go after a possibility-you may not secure the birds in the bush and lose the one in hand and end up with no food.

depends on the bird. I would say that an Owl is definitely worth more than 2 parakeets in a bush.

I guess it depends, do you want them dead or alive?
What is the condition of the one in your hand vs those in the bush?
What kind of birds?
Do you have netting?
What do you want them for?
Is one enough, or do you need two, or more?
Do you even like birds?

I'll refrain from non-literal interpretations.

Is that the same as 3 in a tree?
How about 4 on your door?
5 in a hive?

If it's in your hand, you have captured it. 2 in the bush are wild and free. Unless you are talking about a different bush..........and then one is still enough!

when they say about "a bird in the hand" means that the answer, future, decision depends on you. it is in your hand. there is this story: a little boy ask an old man, "i have a bird in my hand" placing it in his back. "is the bird alive or dead?" the little boy asked the old man. the old man answered "if i say it is alive then you will squeeze the bird, making it dead. if i answer it is dead, then you'll set the bird free"...Got it? the answer is in your hand
