It's true.
It does have an effect on the clarity of your thoughts.
It does not, however (and contrary to popular belief) kill brain cells.

It doesn't make me feel stupid. It does not kill brain cells. That is a myth that was disproved 30 years ago. It does not lower IQ in the long term. If it does make you feel stupid I recommend not smoking it. Different people react differently to it. It's just like booze. Some people can drink all night with little problem, others are IAHJAA (Instant a hole just add alcohol). They shouldn't drink.
I find it amazing how much disinformation about MJ is being passed around this thread. There is zero evidence that it causes genetic damage. LOL, amotivational syndrome: a phony disease invented by the antidrug lobby. It does not exist. No medical definition exists. Some of the most brilliant and producive people in the world smoke grass.
James W tells an excellent story. It didn't make him feel good so he quit. It is unwise to smoke all the time. Everything in moderation, and if it doesn't do anything for you, don't do it.

Well, when I got high, I just felt exposed and a bit paranoid. I didn't say much and I laughed a lot. Even when I did it with people I hung out with for years, I still felt a bit out of place. If there were a few of us getting high and suddenly, more people came, I had a huge urge to get up and isolate myself to a room by myself. Maybe even just go home without saying good bye. When I did engage in conversation, I felt dominated for some reason and confused. I thought that nearly everything being said was an indirect bash towards me. Oh, and don't let there have been inside jokes being shared. That was it. I'm so outta there. I guess when it all boils down, I did feel pretty stupid the majority of the time, but only during, not days later.

I smoked for a long time and always felt like an idiot. I quit like a year and a half ago, and it's amazing how much better I feel. More intelligent, and able to have conversations. I can do math again. I don't regret smoking pot. It was awesome. I love cartoons, snack foods, and funky music, but like everything, moderation is the only measure. I did not practice moderation. If you feel like it's hindering your ability to function, lay off it for a while. Eventually for me, it stopped being fun. I would just smoke, and sink into a semi-aware state. Trapped in my mind and the paranoia that comes from using it too much. I feel much better about everything now that I stopped. More lucid. Give it a few months at least and notice the difference in your vocabulary alone. Amazing. For the people who say it's bad and you're bad for trying it, screw 'em. It's not addictive, and in many many ways it's beneficial. The key is moderation. If you smoke every day, you should chill out for a while.

Over time it can make you stupid if you smoke enough of it. I do smoke weed on occasion and have since I was a teenager but I don't think I've smoked enough to do me any real damage. But as for the "few days later" thing, I don't really notice a difference like I can't concentrate or anything. But I'm sure if you were high for a few days straight, that could happen.

I don't do marijuana, but I know a few who do. They all are paranoid. Some admit it, some won't. They also tell me that they are not as sharp, mentally, as they should be or once was. The longer a person has smoked, the worse these conditions are.
Personal observation.

Research has shown that memory retention suffers while under the influence of weed. Moderate and heavy smokers are handicapped while on the influence. However, memory retention after or prior to influence is the same as those who do not smoke.

I always feel much more lucid after smoking. After I smoke I usually have philosophical conversations. I also have to write essays and papers and I usually am high or smoked within a couple days. When i go for too long without it and nicotine my brain starts shutting down.
edit: MARIJUANA DOES NOT KILL HEALTHY BRAINCELLS PEOPLE IT WILL ONLY KILL CANCEROUS ONES. if anything pot makes you smarter. Potheads are usually the people who are smart.

I think that it affects people differently. I don't know that it makes you actually stupid, but it slows your reflexes down, I believe, and it also seems to take away your initiative so you achieve less. It also depends on whether you're a chronic smoker or an occasional smoker. Oh, and if you go to a party where people are stoned, and you're not, they'll definitely seem stupid to you.

Scientists have proven that smoking pot does affect a person's thinking, memory, co-ordination and it also does damage to genes. Also, it has been found to still be detected in the body many hours and days after having used it.
Hope this provides you with some insight. BFN
