In Scottsdale it's expensive because that's the richest part of the Phoenix area with the nicest malls, attractions, etc. However, it's a rough place to go on a budget. I would suggest anyplace actually in Phoenix, and possibly Tempe or Chandler. There are 2 Pointe Hilton resorts in Phoenix, and the one at South Mountain is VERY family friendly. February is a rough time because everything gets much more expensive - it's the tourist season. In July prices crash -- like nice resort suites for under $100 a night.

Trying to stay anywhere in Scottsdale is indeed going to be incredibly expensive, partly due to the time of year (our snowbirds don't leave until about March or April) and partly because it's just a high class area of town. If you stick to the West Valley, or even parts of North Phoenix or right around ASU (Towards the middle of Tempe but you can hit some bad areas so be careful) you can get better rates and still be close to Scottsdale. Once you're in the valley, and need some fun, cheap things to do, take a look at my travel blog, it's all about cheap or free travel all around the Phoenix/Scottsdale area and you should be able to find a ton of great things to do for very little cash.

February is prime time in Scottsdale, everybody wants to be here in February, so make those reservations fast!

And even hotels that you can book other times of the year for $59.00 to $79.00 go up to $129.00 or thereabouts in February. The Ramada Limited is downtown and goes for $129.00, if you are planning a longer stay, check Homestead Studio Suites at $95.00

For a complete list and the guaranteed best rates check this local provider, http://www.insider-scottsdale.com/hotels.htm not only will you find the best hotel, but everything else to do in Scottsdale!

Don't stay in Scottsdale. Scottsdale is one of the more expensive parts of town. If you are going to be in South Scottsdale, look for something in Mesa or Tempe and if you will be in North Scottsdale, look for something in North Phoenix.

Well #1 its scottsdale, I live out in Superstition springs (Mesa/Gilbert) and anywhere in that area will be expensive, prehaps look in other surrounding cities, The phoenix area is large but easy to get from one place to another.
