I am a Christian and I say Merry Christmas bescause X-Mas {as I was taught in a Public school down in the 2nd grade} was rude. The teacher didn't want to see it. The X is a way to leave Christ out of Christmas and therefore is rude. Does anyone else who is offended by this ever tilt the X to make it look like a cross? How many people are offended by this?

I hate that term as well! I also am not too fond of the fact holidays have lost their true meaning. Even the songs! Christmas is not about Rudolph or Frosty or Santa!!... It's about the birth of Jesus Christ.

One story is that the X for Christmas actually came about because Christians were persecuted for a time and had to go "underground",and the Greek X was used to represent Christ as a symbol of recognition between Christians. Read on for more info about the real use of the X in Christianity. Further, the X should be pronounced, "Christ" just as the long verson of the word, Christmas.

So as you can see, there is no reason to be offended. Just misunderstanding.

Actually, the X was used by early Christians to mean Christ. Rather than leaving Christ out of Christmas, it's actually keeping it in there. Nothing rude about it.

Umm X stands for Christ so there is no way putting an X instead of Christ is leaving Christ out of christmas. It is shorthand.

And how about the christians pick the day jesus was really born to celebrate his birth instead of taking one of the pagan holidays.

What, like take away the nutmeg on the eggnog? (lol)

I am actually not offended bcuz I thought the term came into being either from Chi (X) or bcuz it looks like a cross, as you say.

That, and it is "despise." Really, people, spelling can change the whole meaning. That is why spelling is important.

Get over it. You don't hear me bitching every time you people try to shove your beliefs down my throat, do you?
Merry X-Mas.

the words arent important, its your actions that define who you are, not the way you choose to spell something.
