I already asked about octane and figured out I should go from 87 to 91 in octane for my motorcycle. Does anyone know; will the higher octane level change how well the engine starts, especially when it is cold? It has just a kick start so I would like starting to be as easy as possible. It is cold blooded enough as it is. Thanks.

Higher octane fuel has a lower ignition temperature. In theory, it should start more quickly when cold. However, the difference in combustion temps between 87 and 91 is pretty small, so you probably wouldn't notice much of a difference in cold starts.

I repeat for all the myth people octane is only for anti-knock and has nothing to do with anyting else about the fuel. The gas companies have a summer and a winter mix of additives that they put in there fuels the additives in the winter help on starting and preventing ice from forming in the fuel the most important thing on starting a kicker is the spark plug and the coil if they are worn it is way harder to start than any other thing on the bike also making sure that you push the engine to the top of the compression stroke before you kick it over also make sure the choke works GL

dead 7 is correct about the octane stuff. The higher the octane, the slower it burns. Incidently, gasoline itself won't burn or explode, it's only when the gasoline vapor is mixed with air will it ignite. Winter formulations vaporise at a lower temperature which helps get things going in cold weather. Summer formulations don't vaporize as easily at lower temperatures which helps prevent vapor lock. Using a summer fuel in very low temps causes hard starting and using winter fuel in hot weather is more likely to vapor lock.

gas doesnt effect how well your moto start its the engine oil... higher octane just create a better mix. of air/fuel so you get a better combustion which acclerate your moto better and faster
