What cover do you think sounds better than the original band's version? No set number of answers. I have a few:
1."Hey Hey" Zepplin cover by Hootie and the Blowfish (I know, I know... what can I say? That's what I think.)
2. "Do You Wanna Touch Me There (Oh Yeah)" Joan Jett cover by BILE
3. "Johnny B. Goode" Chuck Berry cover by Green Day
4. Manson's cover of "Tainted Love" (can't remember who did it originally, suprisingly)
5. Poison's cover of "Your Mama Don't Dance" (can't remember who did that one either but Poison did it way better)
6. "Happiness In Slavery" NIN cover by BILE
7. "No Woman No Cry" Bob Marley cover by Rancid
8. "Time After Time" Cyndi Lauper cover by Matchbox 20
9. "Die Die My Darling" Misfits cover by Metallica
10. "Whiskey In The Jar" Thin Lizzy/folk song cover by Metallica

I also really liked the Nativity In Black tribute to Sabbath. There were some GREAT covers on there, like Megadeth's version of "Paranoid" and Ugly Kid Joe's version of "N.I.B.", my favorite Black Sabbath song. It's a love song, ya'll. Dig on it awhile.

Sorry, buddy. To me, Glen Danzig sounds like a cross between Elvis and Jim Morrison. Not that I don't like Danzig. Just to me, that version of Die Die was better. AFI covered "Last Caress" and it was really good, too. I don't even really like AFI that much. Their singer did a live version of "Radio" with Rancid and it sounded awesome though.
And that Vines cover isn't weird. I like the Lemonhead's version of "Mrs. Robinson" better than the original.

Instrukt:
that isn't a Marylin Manson cover by G'n'R. That is a CHARLES Manson cover by G'n'R. Charles Manson wrote that song. Charlie Manson, as in Helter Skelter.

RoVale:
Awesome. Learned something I didn't know. I thought "Hey Joe" was a Hendrix tune. I should have known though. It sounds nothing like the rest of his stuff.

The only cover worth mentioning is Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. Absolutely brilliant and what an amazing last release. It was almost like his atonement for all he had done in his life.

99% of covers are rubbish and not worth listening too.

Joe:
Magnificent as "Hurt" is, it's only one of many superb covers by many artists over the decades.
It's also not his last release even though it would have been a fitting conclusion to JC's career.

My own fav.
Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring-Beach Boys (orig. Four Freshmen)

fiona apple's cover of "across the universe" by the beatles. loved that one ever since that movie "pleasantville" came out. it's a great cover.

guns n roses' cover of "live and let die" by paul mccartney

johnny cash's cover of "hurt" by nine inch nails

those are the only covers i can stand, and i love them both, almost as much as the originals.

and the metallica cover of "die die my darling" sucks ***. misfits (danzig line-up) rocked so much harder than metallica ever could.
sorry, had to get that out.
