We have lots of that in my granny's place in Iloilo. A few of our neighbors have to make do with walis tingting or even cut up trees. Not that it looks shabby. They are often in fact wildly decorated and very colorful.
At home we always use the old mall-bought Christmas tree my parents had since the year they get married. And the same lights and decors. It brings back old memories of childhood and wonderful memories for my mom&dad too.
Now that I am married, I look forward to my first Christmas tree after hubby agreed. We'll be setting up a fake evergreen from the store, of course =)

We like the look of Victorian Christmas trees (an old German tradition, some say begun by Martin Luther, but probably with pagan origins as are most of our holiday/Christian traditions are, and imported into England during the reign of Queen Victoria, her husband being German) and ours is an artificial pine-blue spruce. My grandmother always put up a wonderful "Mexican" Christmas tree- it was cut from tin and brightly painted with the decorations cut out of the tree shape from a single piece of tin. My Aunt in Newport Beach just had my dad cut a branch from a neighborhood pine, sort of a holiday centerpiece really, but decorated with red glass balls and a star on top-ah side sort of....It was her tradition so it worked somehow.

Wraped a kalamansi bush with white paper then hang balls, bells and angels. I really don't know why there is a Christmas tree on that season when the original Christmas story only had Jesus Mary Joseph the animals the kings, the star the angels and the shepherds.

For Philippine Policemen it is Christmas every day - under the table! Unfortunately the government pays so little that this encourages corruption to ensure that their officers have a chance to survive.
