This question is wrong.
American: Ford & GM, generally and conditionally yes. Chrysler, generally no with some exceptions.
German: BMW yes, VW no for late model used cars, maybe for new ones. MB, maybe.
There have been a lot of unreliable German cars in recent years, and a lot of very good American cars. It isn't as simple as AMERICAN OR GERMAN OR JAPANESE?

German. I'll never drive an American made car ever. they're all horrible in my opinion. In fact I currently drive a German made Car.

American.
I know that Germans have the reputation for true sports cars.
But having looked at several in my rear view mirror on mountain roads, I am not impressed.
Admittedly, I am crazier the most in the turns, but it would seem to me that either German cars are just not up to it or those that drive them can't.

German's make the best supercars, mucslecars, sportscars, sports sedans, and luxury sedans.
German Supercars-Porsche's, Mercedes SLR Mclaren, Mercedes SL65 AMG, Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, VW W12, Porsche 911/911Turbo, Porsche Carrera GT, and Porsche 959.
German Muscle cars-Audi RS4, Audi S4, Audi S5, Audi RS5, Audi S6, Audi RS6, Audi A8, BMW M3, BMW M5, BMW M6, all Mercedes AMG sedans and Coupes.
German Sportscars-Audi TT, BMW Z4, VW GTI, VW R32, VW GLI, and Mercedes SLK, Porsche Boxster/S, Porsche Cayman/S.
German luxury cars-ALL AUDI's, BMW's, Mercedes', Porsche's, and VW Phaeton and Passat.
