Years ago I was a single Dad. My employer told me I had to start working second shift. I told him my situation and that I couldn't work second shift. He said, "What's more important, your job or your family?" I quit on the spot, after 16 years there.

I sure have, years ago my Sister and I decided to work a few hours a day being as our children where all at school, we went to an employment agency and we got part time at a Pork Pie factory....it was dreadful, the place stank to high heaven with all that meat, the floors were so greasy you could hardly stand up, but for some strange reason we could not stop laughing from the moment we got there, the place was full of odd people, well, they would have to be to stay and work in those conditions, anyway it got to the first break of the morning, we just looked at each other, laughed, got our coats and left, everyone thought we were going out for a smoke, we were in stitches by the time we got to the bustop, and we have spent rest of our life wondering, WHY on earth did we go to that hell hole in the first place
Never ate a Pork Pie since...we know what goes in them...lol

such a long reply, sorry, but I've enjoyed the memory...I think lol

Yep - in 2005 I got so fed up with a my job which I had loved for many years but with new management had turned into the job from Hades that I was very unhappy. [lst time in my career this had happened] Finally my daughter said, "Mom, just leave! - you'll find something else". So I drafted my resignation and was planning to leave in two weeks. On the day I left something happened that yanked my last nerve to smithereens and at noon I emailed the resignation and walked off the job! Yep...sure did...felt good too.! :-)

Due to my work ethic I DID leave my position and office in good stead and ready for a replacement though.

No, it's hard to walk off the job at sea. I have thought of having a couple of people walk the plank though:~)
I kicked the engineers butt once and got a promotion, from there I went to Captain

Yes, once. I was managing an insurance firm, a small company of about 10 people. The guy I was dating at the time was a computer and monitor to the business. My boss decided he had paid enough and wasn't going to pay rental any more. I had been telling him for 6 months to just buy a computer. When he quit paying, boyfriend said he was repossessing. I got stuck in the middle, called my assistant to warn her that he was coming for the equipment and I would "out sick" that day. When the police showed up at my door claiming my boyfriend stole the equipment, I explained what happened and never went back.

Yes. I was working 60 to 70 hours a week - filling in for one staff member also for the Manager on and off as well as doing my own job and I brought up an issue with the Manager during my first break of the day at 4.00pm This manager had a habit of saying to staff members "If you can't do your job properly, then leave..." I always swore to myself if he ever said that to me I would walk out and lo and behold - he said it on this occasion when it didn't even apply to anything. I threw all the keys on the table and said, "right, I will" and I did.
They still paid me all I was due and eighteen months later I returned -(after he had left), but he was relieving on a later occasion and we never raised the subject except that he said. "I've changed a lot since my heart operation" which I took as a form of apology. I am still with the same company but at their head office now.

Once when I was 18 years old. I worked 4 hours at a nursing home as an aid. I was totally unprepared for what I was getting into. I walked off in tears.

Yes. I worked in the garment industry as an accountant. the owner and her husband worked there as well. The woman was a screamer and a thrower when things didn't go her way and she was always yelling at her husband. The first time she threw something at him and missed and hit me instead, I let it go. The next time she threw a phone at him, it hit me in the head. I told her to shove the job. I hated that woman!

Not exactly... I had been robbed at gun point while working. Two weeks later I ran into the guy at the grocery store! Three weeks later they caught him, after he was shot... Having to be in court all day and work all night thinking another addict could walk through the door at any minute with a gun became to much for me. I didn't give much notice, but I did give notice.

Kinda. I didn't just walk off, but I concocted a family emergency that had to be taken care of immediately, and told my boss I didn't know how long I was going to be gone.. so would be in his best interest to go ahead and replace me.

I did it cause I didn't like my new boss at all and wanted out.. LOL.. Consequently, 2 years later, I am now married to that guy... Strange I know.

I too have walked off , on more than one occasion. Sometimes it was a choice of working or being home with a sick child and it really wasn`t a choice. Being a mom means that they come first. Daycare won`t take them with a fever and school sends them home.
