there are a variety of baby finger foods on the market gerber makes them...things like square chopped carrot pieces..give her a little dollop of mashed potatoes...anything you can chop small should work...if she doesnt seem to be able to handle things chopped small..try chopping it then smashing it so she will not be able to choke on it
edit:cheese is a bad idea...she is only 7 months old...also the gerber sausages another answerer suggested they do sell those in the baby food aisle..you can chop them but they are extremely soft and mash easily..when my daughter was under a year old we gave her pudding jello shaped eggs..she would mash them like crazy..and had one shirt she would wear while eating them because it would stain..she loved those jello/pudding eggs though..my son would gnaw on corn on the cob after we ate it..sounds a little nasty i know..but he was our baby

Try cut up bananas, cooked diced carrots things like that. Cut the puffs in half if you are worried, although they do dissolve fairly fast. Use frozen peas not canned--not slimy at all! What ever you try, cut it up really small. I would stick to fairly soft fruits(fresh) cut up small, and fresh or frozen veggies the same way. For example, a slice of banana should be cut into at least 6 pieces. Yep, that small. It will help her with her fine motor skills as well. I just went thru this with my grandson, who is now 14 months. He would still rather eat that way than anything else! We call it the Tarzan diet--LOL. Whole fresh foods, plus he eats cheese and some meats now. Aslo, I found that if I put some finger food on the tray, I could sneak in spoonfuls of other foods without too much trouble! Gotta be sneaky, Mom!

The Gerber Puffs are even safer than Cheerios so I would (and did) use them and introduce Cheerios later. If you feed grapes cut them into quarters. I would also cut bananas lengthwise into fourths and then dice them. There are also these little mesh bags with a big soft rubber ting on the end. you can lock food into them so the baby can chew on it and get the nutrition without the danger of choking. Of course, the child should be supervised and after they get a lot of teeth you would want to stop.
Canned green bean were a favorite of all of my boys and you can get a lower sodium variety.
A good rule of thumb is that if you can mash it between your tongue and the roof of your mouth, the baby should be able to handle it.
The Gerber puffs scare me less than peas because they dissolve so quickly.
Have fun!
Edit: Oh yes, my babies loved avocados too. For a treat little pieces of graham cracker dissolve easily too.

Those gerber puffs are really wonderful... They might make you nervous but they dissolve REALLY quickly so there's very little risk of choking. Just keep an eye on her, she'll be fine :) At 7 months, my daughter was addicted to those puffs. Pirate's Booty, Veggie Booty, and the old classics like Cheerios are best at this age - anything else that's full of starch like that can dissolve quickly, and would therefore be great at that age.

Nothing fried, first off! Try like the chicken in a biscut thingys! They are kinda small! Mostly fruits and veggies........steamed carrot sticks should give them an idea how to chew and not choke! Stay really close and be careful! If the baby has teeth he/she needs to learn to use them !
Cherios, are great for them. Now they make the yogurt covered ones and my 2 yr old loves those!

Are you talking about the gerber fruit/veggie puffs? I can't think of anything more baby friendly than those! They're shaped like little stars right?...those are awesome. Even if she can't chew, those things begin to melt as soon as they hit the mouth...I've never seen a baby choke or have trouble with those. Also I always liked the gerber graduates for my kids learning to feed. They come in little jars, already diced up.....green beans, carrots, fruit dices, ......check them out.

Ok......my 2nd daughter......I understand. Biter biscuits blow, by the way. She choked at least twice on them. I found that mashed bananas helped her with her "skills", though its messy as heck! Wagon wheel shaped pasta worked well, as I could cut it up for her and she was able to feed herself and still feel proud about her independance (so to speak). Also, the Gerber veggie snacks are wonderful! Hope this helps.....and take care. =)
