I'm a sophomore in high school. I know that you're going to say its to early to start worrying about college and i should just focus on grades but I know because of the increased number of people going to college that will raise the standards for the top universities. So what would the new bar be set at only A's and 2000 on sat?

Well, the competition is tough....and as some of the others have posted, you should strive to get an A in every class......but a couple of B's won't kill you. The comments about SAT's are also correct. You should shoot for at least 2200 on your SAT 1. However, in addition to all that, you should take the most rigorous courses available in your school. If they offer AP classes, take them. I would shoot for at least 4 or 5.....supplemented with honors classes. Take the AP exams....and shoot for a 4 or 5. The Ivy league school will not only look at your grades, but they will also want to see that you have challenged yourself.

Lastly on the academic front, you will need to take at least two or three SAT 2 exams. You should select those classes you are best in. Your AP classes will prepare you best for the SAT 2...so you should probably consider those classes.

All of the above will put you in the pack with many other highly qualified candidates applying to these schools. You should select extra curricular activities that you are passionate about and stick with them for at least two or three years. These schools want to see dedication. Whether it is getting a black belt in martial arts or teaching Sunday school.....go out and do it.

The competition for these schools is intense....Good Luck.

Well, in highschool, it's never too early to think about college. Usually, the earlier the better because some kids blow off their first few years which ends up screwin them later whereas if you're prepared, you'll get into a good school. The standards will be pretty high, so try to get as many A's as you can and do great on SATs and/or ACTs

For Ivy Leagues, you want to have at least 2200 on your SATs. Straight A's and a couple B's (throughout your entire high school career) are fine.

You want A LOT of extracurriculars and leadership positions.

Well, it depends on which Ivy you are talking about, but in some cases, 2000 wouldn't be enough to get you through.
