i was wondering if this was a common thing or not, but i have an oil leak, and lots of sludge under the transmission. i dont think its the transmission, because its grimey all the way up to the distributor. is it the distributor seal? has anyone else had the same problem? if so, what is it????

More than likely your valve cover gasket. If oil or dirt are around it replace it, clean the motor and work your way down the motor until you find the leak.

Its probably the distributor seal. If not, check the crankshaft seal. Mine went out when I did timing belt and waterpump. Oil started leaking everywhere. What a mess! The mechanic didnt put it in right. Luckily they re-did it for free. But what you really have to do to pinpoint the problem is wipe everything under the car down with a clean shop towel then run the car and see where the oil collects. Dont forget to check the oil pan gasket as well. Good luck.

A friend of mine got rid of his crappy Honda for exactly the problems you describe. The seals kept leaking at the distributor and caused the distributor to keep crapping out. He has sworn off Honda's ever since.

Can't tell from here what is leaking. You need tp clean it up a bit so you can see where it is comimg from.
