Does anybody know if it is okay to write a story based from a movie along as you do not plan to publish it. Its just so I will have something to read in the future.

Sure - write whatever you want. It you tried to publish something that a publisher considered questionable in terms of plagiarism suits, they wouldn't accept it anyway.

"Mediocre Writers Borrow; Great Writers Steal." - T. S. Eliot

Among the rain
and lights
I saw the Beowulf persona-none-knows-writer,
Chaucer,
Shakespeare,
and all the other finished-life already
European dudes famous
at American schools
...nor no creator-artist from any culture,
civilization,
tribe, clan, band (rock or otherwise),
or time-zone,
ever created,
discovered,
or simply exploded
with the energy juice of the Gods
to say anything worth reading.....
while writing gold
on a red
fire truck
moving
tense
unheeded
to gong clangs
and the
siren howls
of a famous writer from the 50's & 60's
who went and stole
from another famous writer b4 him,
jus' like I'm hippin' this verse
with wheels rumbling
through the dark city

So...

Here's my answer to your ask.

We all find inspiration in others. It's the nature of things.

Steal Away, Andy.

I think you should write it if you want. You can even publish it if you are going to write something like a summary or cliff notes or even a critique.

I'm pretty sure you can write whatever you want if you're not gonna publish it. I mean, it's not like the entire nation will read it.

This falls under fan fiction. Go ahead and write it for your own enjoyment.
