Not candy, pencils, stickers or erasers. Something cheap and very natural. Any ideas?

Go out and buy a bunch of Fisher Price Little people and give each child one in a little stocking. My two year old really digs those 50 cent tape measures - he can play with one of those for hours of content enjoyment. One really cheap and great thing to do is to take their photos using a digital camera - print them - cut out their photo in a circle shape and glue construction paper on the back. Write their name and the year on the back. Then take some fat yarn and glue it around the circle leaving extra at the top so they can hang it on their Christmas tree. My mom still has one of me like that - it's a timeless treasure they will keep forever.

Go to craft store, like Michaels, and buy one of those bug tubs of foam shapes, Christmas shapes would be great.

Also, buy several squares of foam, in red and green. Cut stocking shapes out of the squares, depending on how large they are and how big you make the stockings, I would make the stockings about 4 or 5 inches tall max so I could get several out of each square.

Punch a hole at the top and thread with ribbon to allow to be hung as an ornament at home. Allow the kids to "decorate" their stocking however they choose.

Write their names on the back with the year.

If the stocking shape is too difficult, cut circles and make them ornaments. Let the kids take them home to mom and dad.

Have you been teaching 2 kids for 28 years, or 28, two year old children? I'm assuming the latter. Little kids like stuff. Coloring books, posters, maybe a class picture. Whatever you get a two year old, they will most likely enjoy.

How about some little gloves or mittens? A good store would probably give you a discount if you are buying that many. A package of seeds to plant in the spring, lots of nurseries are getting rid of 2007 seeds for next to nothing.

I remember my teacher buying small plastic apple ornaments and writing our names in gold paint pen on them, they were cute.

You could buy a bulk of cheap Christmas books and give to each of them.

Try Oriental Trading! Cheap and cute!
