And how is it that Republicans claim that they are not racist but he is their Speaker?

Shouldn't he have been tossed out a long time ago?

Byrd explained that he was a member because he "was sorely afflicted with tunnel vision—a jejune and immature outlook—seeing only what I wanted to see because I thought the Klan could provide an outlet for my talents and ambitions." Byrd also said, in 2005, "I know now I was wrong. Intolerance had no place in America. I apologized a thousand times ... and I don't mind apologizing over and over again. I can't erase what happened.

But Trent Lott still says he thinks that the leader of the Segregation movement would have made a better President and the world would be better now.

Not saying I'm a big fan of Byrd, but saying racist stuff more than a decade ago is not worse than saying it today.

Ok... I did not say Robert Byrd was a great guy... never would.

But the point remains that I asked a question about Trent Lott...

Republicans absolutely MUST point the finger at Dems to avoid questioning... EVERY TIME.

Go ask your own questions about Robert Byrd if you must... In fact, I will too.

First, Lott hasn't been in the Senate for 35 years.
Second, He is not their "speaker". He is the republican whip in the Senate.
Third, He isn't racist and neither are republicans. He got labeled that by the "non biased media" and democrats because he said some nice things about Strom Thurman at his birthday party.
Fourth, democrats have some senators and congressmen that have been serving far longer than Trent Lott.

I am no defender of Trent Lott but I simply marvel at your acceptance of Robert Byrd's so called apology in blaming his behavior on his youth. The man was a recruiter for and a leader in the Ku Klux Klan. That is way worse than being for segregation. They were killing black people, blowing up and burning down black churches. How can you think for one minute that the two are somehow equal? Or yet, how can you think an old Southern Politician who supported segregation is somehow worse than a Ku Klux Klan leader?

Can you explain to me exactly how you came to the conclusion that Lott is a "segregation supporting racist". My guess is you have no idea. He gave a toast at a gentleman's 100th birthday party who once ran for President as a segregationist. That does not make Lott one. Why don't you tell me how Robert Byrd (D) is still in office when he has admitted being a member of the KKK in the past. He has also used the *N* word several times on national TV. Explain that!
****Your add is ridiculous. He "still" says that huh? No. Wrong. He said it only once and it was only to make an old man feel good. Geez you libs are such hypocrites!

Maybe he got advice from Byrd, you know, the democratic former head of the klan. Lott said nice things about a 100 year old man, Byrd actually participated in racist acitivities with the klan. Funny, how you overlook the huge sins of your party and condemn a Republican for saying nice things.

I am a conservative, but I would never have voted for Trent Lott! As you can see from my avatar, I am a black woman. He doesn't like my kind. He was elected by his constituency. His term says nothing about republicans. It says a lot about his constituency.

He's not a segregation supporting racist. You should ask a question that has a real premise, instead of name calling.
