Well I think it would be good to list the types of sex offenders. I mean one would use a different treatment for a child sex offender than you would use for another kind of sex offender. Then what types of treatments seem to have the best results, I mean what percent of sex offenders re-offend after a type of treatment was used. I myself think counseling and possibly medication for illnesses could be good. Some people say that they should be castrated, I do not follow this line of thought. The fact is there are many women who are sex offenders, we are just now beginning to see this more over the last 5 years. So castration would not work on women, now would it. One has to make sure what ever the treatment is, is one that can be given to both male and female sex offenders or else one could claim sexual discrimination. =) Sounds like a very interesting topic!!! Good Luck.

Treatment isn't the problem. It is the definition of "sex offender" that is the problem. You are deemed a sex offender, and must register, if you are convicted of Public Urination. This means that if you go to pee in the woods by the road and someone sees you, you can be a sex offender. However, some types of sex offenders (both violent and exhibitionist) are completely untreatable. They cannot be rehabilitated. I suggest you look at the DSM IV. [Diagnostic and Statistical Manual]. This is a tool that psychiatrists use in their diagnoses, and it has a lot of valuable information.

I only know that treatment for sexual offenders is discouragingly unsuccessful. Obviously, the best outcome would be for offenders to be released after having served their sentences, and not harming anyone else after that. Sadly, this is not the case, and the rights of a dangerous person to be released seem to outweigh the rights of innocent people to be protected from them. I think the only answer is for sexual offenders to locked up indefinitely as dangerous offenders, because that is exactly what they are.

A 9MM bullet between the eyes. There is no way to treat or rehabilitate these perverts. It's a shame convicted sex offenders aren't placed in general population when they are incarcerated.
It's a shame they get put in protective custody. Perhaps it's ironic that even hardcore criminals have limits to what they feel is acceptable.
BTW a dead sex offender will not become a repeat offender!

I dont know if this is "readily available" but shock treatment has been proven effective. It works like this...tie you to a bed, shows you pictures, when you see a young child or whatever the illness is they shock you. There is a clinical name for that, but it makes you associate pain with the...whatever it is.

I would propose castration.
I've read some of them that are truly repented of offenses request it. But judges deem it too radical.
IMO they should know what they need.

From my reading, it's not just about sex...it's also about power - just like rape. So , you need to fix a mental condition first...no easy task.
