You should! It's a great way to count down to Christmas for the little ones. Most of them also give the kids a little gift every day which builds the excitement until Christmas comes, and if you are a Christian, many tell the story of Jesus's birth. They are really cool!

When my children were little -- yes, I did get my children Advent Calendars ... and some were secular (like the lego advent calendar -- which had a little lego toy for each day you count down!). I would also share with them (and not just during the Holiday season) the values I live my life by -- and what the true meaning of Christmas was supposed to me (and not the blatant commercialism).

Used to, but at 13 and 15 it is just a have now. The meaning of the days and counting down is lost.I feel that soon as kids find out the real reason for xmas, then advent calenders should stop.

I have been looking for one, actually. I am trying to find one like what I had when I was a kid. It had a moveable bear that moved downstairs in a house until it got to the bottom to the tree for Christmas morning. I am hopeful to find something similar for my son (who is only 1 right now, but will soon be old enough to enjoy it completely).

I didn't buy one, my sister sent a wondrful one for Christmas many years ago. I had to re-stitch part of it because after so much use it was falling apart. It's one of our favorite traditions even though our youngest is 16 now.
