Karl Marx very clearly explained in his theory about communism that it would ONLY work once the proletariat were ready for it and they would rise up and make the system happen themselves. obviously, Lenin and Trotsky didn't get the memo. also, the communist governemtns are corrupt. "Power corrupts. absolute Power corrupts absolutly"- Orwell

Two reasons.

1. It isn't run by the people. In order for true communism to work the people have to rise up and demand it, and then control it. There is always some nutty dictator trying to inflict it upon someone - not exactly a communist state.

2. It relies on humans to be unselfish and giving. As we are all flawed, it will never work as intended. Someone will always get a little greedy and topple the system.

The only instance in human history that I'm aware communism - or something close to it - working is that the very beginning of the Christian church. See Acts 2, where the early Christians brought all their possessions and assets to the church and "laid them at the apostles' feet." By doing so, the needs of the widows and poor were met. You literally had a "From each according to his ability to each according to his need" situation taking shape.

But that was a VOLUNTARY situation where each of the people were committed to a purpose and vision larger than themselves.

The problem with communism and its close cousin (socialism) in the civil arena is that it's government-enforced on the masses. Top-down communism translates to totalitarianism.

Because communism is not a good idea that is why it never works.

Because human nature survived and progressed by wanting more than the other guy. No artist, inventor, creator, ever did anything without thinking about the big payoff. If all humanity ever did was strive to be equal, we'd still be living in caves.

What makes you think it's a good idea?..Live in a communist country for a year and it'll make perfect sense to you.
The worker's theory is to do the least amount of work and try to get the most rewards. They HATE the powers that be and do the most they can to undermine them, yet still get paid............Be happy to get a 1 br apt for a LOT of money and a very long waiting list...(Years)
Do a little more homework and try to talk to someone who has been through it.........It sucks!

because state bureaucratic control of the means and resources of production doesn't translate into worker control. in the end the bureaucrats are no different than the oligarchs. so communism= only inefficient state capitalism.

Because those at the top, the leaders, eventually think the rules don't apply to them and start separating themselves from the serfs to become a Lord.

Communism never works because sharing goes against basic human nature.

it never works because, the people who want it, only want YOU to live under it, NOT THEM. the 2% that run the gov't don't ride street cars, don't stand in line for bread, don't live in a 2 room flat, and go without heat. those are the benifits reserved for the COMMON people. why wouldn't you just love it?
