well for me, christmas is my favorite time of year. it really hits me tht it's tht time of year again as soon as thanksgiving ends. i love christmas and it has always been my favorite holiday, so it is typically very easy for me to get excited. wht i like to do to get me in the christmas mood is turn on radio stations that play christmas music right after thanksgiving through christmas day (like: walk 97.5 fm or 106.7 lite fm). the down side to this is of course the fact of becoming bored with hearing the same songs for basically a month over and over again, so listen in moderation...i usually listen while doing hw or driving tht way i dont get sick of it tht fast. the other thing i like to do is decorate. my family usually decorates towards december 1st including putting the tree up. decorating is a great way for family bonding which ordinarily might b a grueling subject lol...also try putting up lights inside your house, and curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and relax...the last thing tht really puts me in the christmas spirit is watching the 25 days of christmas on ABC Family, it starts December 1st and lasts through christmas day. it shows great holiday classics like "Santa Clause Is Comin' To Town" and "A Year Without a Santa Clause," it really helps people to welcome the holidays! well good luck!

I would suggest that you start by looking in your own home! Go through your closets -- see what you really need/use .. and DONATE what you can to CHARITIES!
See what you can do to make life a little bit more pleasant for someone else -- greet them cheerily ... smile, provide a helping hand (if someone needs it) .. just be PLEASANT and Patient (especially when waiting in line!).
DO remember family members -- those still living, as well as those who have passed on. Now is a good time to start that Family History/Family Tree .. so that your children (and ... maybe .. their children) can know a little something about their ancestors in the future ... after all, how will they be remembered IF we do NOT document for the future generations the accomplishments and lives that are right in front of us?
Give thanks -- yes, it sounds corny, but really ... we NEED to give thanks for the BLESSINGS in our lives (and yes, there are blessings no matter how hard life has been this year -- for as long as we LIVE, each Breath we take IS a blessing indeed!). This is especially true for those who are SURVIVORS -- especially of Domestic Violence -- those who have LEFT everything behind to be FREE to LIVE.
It can also seem silly -- but there is nothing like SINGING (loudly if you like!) the OLD Christmas Songs -- for who can be in a bad or foul mood when singing "Jingle Bells" or "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer"!

Certainly not the last minute shopping with the masses. It is the idea of give a loved one a special gift and decorating my home for a special time. I will be moving into a new home that I am buying on 12/8 and in trying to configure the furniture placement, I already know where I want to put the tree. I have had outdoor lights for over 5 yrs and could not put them up because of the elec. here. Can finally put them up at the new place. Christmas is a time for love and joy and sharing with others.
