You have 2 movements: globalist neocons like Bush and McCain v. traditional paleocons like Buchanan and Tancredo. Who are you for? I'm a paleocon.

Neocons believe in ABSOLUTE capitalism with no restraints. They think economically, and like globalization.

The reason I ask this is most people lump all conservatives into one category, many fail to realize there are different types.

Paleocons want America addressed first, and a more internalized approach to policies and such. They are more into the culture and Christianity.

Example of divide? Illegal immigration. Republicans are torn apart as some are paleo and some are neocons. Neocons want open borders, blanket amnesty as they believe it will help the economy. Paleocons believe in sovereignty, principle, law, security, and the preservation of America and the economy in the LONG RUN.

Which side are you on? FYI, this is only to conservatives.

As a liberal, I'd put myself into the paleocon field. Thanks!

I take exception to this whole label game. Most of what you describe as "neocon" is actually the Moderate position. No one could consider themselves to be Conservative and be for open borders or blanket amnesty. In fact such positions fly directly into the face of what it means to be an American regardless of Party affiliation.

If you look at recent history you will notice that when the blanket amnesty bill was proposed it was proposed by Democrats and Moderate Republicans. It was defeated by Conservatives in Congress and by enormous pressure brought to bear by the American Public. Do not forget the herculean efforts put forth by Conservative Talk radio and Conservative pundits.

In my opinion, a "neocon" is simply a new Conservative. They are either young people still learning about American political philosophy or older people who recently started to pay attention or have had their minds changed from some other philosophy.

"Paleoconservatives" are the truly old school Pat Buchanan model. I would not put Tancredo in that category. Modern Conservatism is in the Ronald Reagan model. While he did agree with his Democratic Controlled Congress in permitting Amnesty for illegals, it was supposed to be a one shot deal followed up by strict control of the borders and enforcement of immigration laws. Of course, once the Democrats got their amnesty passed no effort was ever made to change the state of the borders or enforce immigration laws.

They fooled us once. This time when they tired the same thing it blew up in their faces. That is because the American people are mostly Conservative even though they do not think they are. Both Presidents Bush as well as McCain are not Conservatives. They are Moderates. Giuliani is inconsistent. On one hand he is very Conservative on the other he is very Liberal. Romney, Huckabee, Hunter and Thompson are Conservatives to various degrees. Ron Paul is basically a Libertarian/Paleoconservative.

I'm not a conservative, but that's a cool way of looking at the party. I agree with the "Paleocon" immigration outlook. Preservation of the economy in the long run is also a really good thing.

Sorry again...not a conservative. I just like the way you laid it out.

Peace.

as a modest liberal, I am with the paleocons. But only in regards to doing whats best for america first and stop psssing away money overseas, and realizing that there is more to a society than profits profits and more profits.

I want to add that I am also against the theocraticans for the reasons I oppose alquaeda and the taliban.

I'm a Mesozoicon, the last of the Goldwater/Rockefeller Republicans. And you all are pretenders to the throne.

Fiscal conservative? Have you SEEN the deficit? No blaming the Dems for that one.
My Republican Party underwent a coup de tat when they sold their souls to the religious right and the racist white trash.

NO CONSERVATIVE WANTS OPEN BORDERS. Bush was mostly conservative during the first term, and became more and more liberal. Now, the party is leaving him, so he is softening his liberal stances. He is a little tighter on spending, and he is not pushing open borders.

The fact is what you call neocon is more like a RINO (republican in name only)
