I am a Father, I am a Son, I am a Husband, I am a Veteran, I am a supporter of the Democratic Party daily, but above all of that I'm a positive example to everyone I meet, and I'm God's son. I read part of the Constitution yesterday, explaining the historical ending of slavery. I guess that would make me a Patriot.

The constitution isn't really bed-time reading. How many times should someone read it in order to love their country?
I think what makes patriots is the DUTY to disagree loudly with initiatives which have a permanent negative impact on way of life, freedom and lifestyle.
Governments have their own self-interests at heart, and are in no way perfect. No matter the government, mistakes are always made.
Real patriotism isn't the support of a government, it's speaking out against that government, if necessary, for the good of the country.

I am a patriot.
The Neocons are the true enemies of our liberty. If it were up to them we would have a theocracy that would only be free to watch the Disney Channel to watch on TV.
Some patriotism eh?
I read the constitution about 15 years ago. I don't read the constitution much.
Unfortunately its basically an irrelevant historical document. To find out what the real laws are you have to read law books.
For example, the US Constitution says nothing about abortion, marijuana, the internet, the Capital Gains tax, pornography or many of the other issues of today's time. You have to read what the interpreters (Supreme Court) to understand the laws.

I do. And yes, I have read the constitution and realize just what the current (snort) president has done to it. A patriot will question authority when it is used to degrade and demean people with the edification of one class of person or corporation. A patriot who bears arms for his/her country takes an oath to protect and defend the constitution, not become a toady to some slimy elected official who feels it is enforceable only if it suits their needs.

Reading the Constitution does not make one a patriot. Look at Bushie and the boys...they read it - and then disregard it or interpret it to match their own warped agenda.
Patriotism is love of country....not a test for reading. It is loving your country in spite of it's warts. It is doing all that is necessary to stop those who try to ruin it. It is voting. It's protesting in the streets against those men and actions that threaten our freedoms and lower our personal dignity.
Anyone can read it, many haven't a clue what it means.

I have read the Constitution several time over. I keep a copy in my briefcase, one on desk, and another on one of my bookshelves. And I have read the entire document, not just the 1st Amendment.
