Regarding the U.S.A. There are a few slight differences but we're just as weird as ever.
Compared to the 1980's male homosexuality seems to be more accepted ,with the fashion industry coining the term metrosexual and popular culture with suspicious pictures of boy bands in very affectionate poses, television shows like Will and Grace, Queer as Folk and most notably, the new venture of homosexual community pay cable tv channels
Pop/rock music isn't any where near as good as it was in those days. Today with the overuse of music sampling of music from 30 years ago incorporated into new tunes and rap music that sounds like something a kindergarten has written, this lends to a certain cheapness of music we've never experienced before. People also have a marked disdain and less respect for record companies and artists, cause we're fed up with unexpected lipsynching, mediocre talent, and what seems like inflated compact disc prices for mediocre music quality, etc..Although the prices of compact discs seemed to have come down to a more reasonable level. I hardly think this is coincidence considering all the illegal downloading going on. There is no doubt in my mind that illegal downloading of music has just as much to do with rebellion, as it does with convenience and economics.
American citizens seem more fed up than ever with the U.S.A's government's lies, war mongering and deceit. George Bush is an idiot and most of us didn't vote for him.
Conservative morals have declined. Back then a celebrity like Lil Kim would never be allowed to go on stage with what she was wearing, excuse me wasn't wearing :) over her breasts on that awards show. Diana Ross did what she did, not out of lesbianism, but because she was shocked. Who wouldn't be? LOL! In the 1980's conventional celebrities didn't make porn films that "accidentally" leaked out to the public (Brett Michaels and Pamela Anderson, Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson, Paris Hilton and what's his face .. Hmm there was one .. Rob Lowe and his infamous affair with underage girls. But that seemed like more a sincere mistake for some reason, because the public saw his image as squeaky clean, when he's anything but. Regular porn films also took a distinct turn, they started featuring unprotected anal sex for male/female couplings. This was never seen in American porn in the 1970's or 1980's. If it was seen, it was rare, now it's standard fare. What is also standard fare in porn films is many guys performing sex with one female among other things which I can't mention. This is a more cheap and taudry scenario for porn as opposed to the romantic intricate stories of the 1970's and 1980's, however it's what the public wants. The revenue of heterosexual and homosexual porn grew leaps and bounds during this time, due to the invention of the VHS videotape and DVD technologies. Before these inventions, porn films had to be viewed at home on clumsy film projectors that were expensive and cumbersome, or in a seedy theatre or peep show booth that no one wanted to be noticed in. Understandably there was a certain shame associated with visting these seedy places, Now porn can be seen on your modular couch with your big screen HDTV DLP TV, and you can have a bachelor party to boot in the background with your beer drinkin' buddies. :)
Another thing that has contributed to moral decline is religious hypocrisy. Evangelists getting caught with hookers, evangelists with gay prostitutes while doing meth. Keep in mind some of these people got caught doing the very thing they claim to abhor on the stage. LOL!.., Catholic priests getting exposed for molesting hundreds of boys and girls. It amazes me that anyone takes these jokers seriously. It's show business, and it's quite a lucrative one, In the 1990's and today American teleevangelists have their king and queen like lifestyles constantly exposed. What's ironic is that it still shocks people :\
Since the 1980's our Hispanic population has grown exponentially and our economy has taken a dive. That is a more recent ccurrence though. The only thing that caused that is greed. Also I am not implying that Hispanics have been the cause of our economic decline, I'm merely comparing the state of the eras.
People now seem to be more interested in health today because the food industries have gotten a lot of bad press. The movie, "Supersize Me" exposed McDonald's toxic secrets and the FDA's sinister ways
People are more concerned about the environment today because they're shocked at what's going on with weather and the environment in some regions of the planet. Also people are really upset about what they're paying at the gas pump these days. I remember in the 1980's I saw the price of gas reach an all time low. I had never seen it as low as $0.74 per gallon, but it was at one time in 1985. And I live in California, imagine how low it went in other U.S.A. states during this time. That's lower than the price per gallon of 1979
Another thing that is quite annoying today compared to 25 years ago or so is the decline in customer service. It's as if American business thinks their workers don't care so they go so far a not to give a hootenany for customers. Who knows? It's weird. Customer service these days when it comes to American business in many times is virtually non-existent. Who ever imagined it would get this bad?
Spelling and grammar has gotten worse and so has our education. I'm sure fast food in schools hasn't helped this any. Whose brilliant idea was that to put fast food in schools. Unbelievable. It's Unbelievable , I tell ya. If that situation isn't proof that money isn't everything, I don't know what is.
That's my "two cents" :)

Dude, you fairly do not understand how to learn a survey, your information are all incorrect. Keep in brain this research makes a speciality of alterations among 1990 and 2001, so the numbers are a bit bit old-fashioned; additionally, the document used a "random digit-dialed cellphone survey of fifty,281 American residential families within the continental U.S.A", that is approximately two% of the whole populace. So that is small random sampling from six years in the past. The research claims that, out of the whole grownup U.S. populace, seventy six.five% are self-defined as Christian; and 14.7% didn't specify a faith. Of the whole grownup U.S. populace, 24.five% are Catholic and sixteen.three% are Baptist; no different denomination has greater than 7% of the whole populace, and "Born Again" is not up to one million% (NOT 33%)! So now that we've got gotten our info immediately, what's your query? Yes, such a lot Americans predominately establish themselves with as a member of a few Christian denomination. What's your factor?

In the 80s, we were afraid of Russia, Communism and nuclear winter, MTV was just coming out and it was the most amazing thing on earth to kids, computers were still foreign and their place in the world was grossly underestimated, and Jimmy Swaggart shocked us all by getting caught with a hooker. Girls who got pregnant in high school were the rare exception, and it was a horrible shame and shock to the school when it happened. Kids who didn't have sex, smoke or use drugs were cool and were respected by their peers, and every Tuesday morning we had a Bible study before class in the science room. We were afraid to be rude to adults, we were afraid to lie, and if we did either, we got smacked upside the head. It was better back then. People were happier, less stressed out, and less fearful. We treated each other better too, aside from that smacking in the head thing of course, which in retrospect was good for us, and more parents should do it today.
