I heard Portis was switching jersey numbers and will wear Sean's #21 starting Sunday. Wondering if anyone else has heard it.

Maybe they wouldn't allow Plummer to be #41 because QBs cannot be such a high number.

Hey Jeff,
Nope hadn't heard that. From what i've been seeing all day-- i think Football stuff is the last thing on the Redskins minds. It wouldn't surprise me- only because Portis is kind of a weird guy-- the intention from Clinton's side would be good, but i don't think it would be perceived in that way-- the Redskins should retire Sean Taylor's number.
i don't think the Skins would allow it and the fans would boo the heck out of Portis if he did that.

No...They're gonna retire the number, and Goodell said the whole NFL will be honoring Taylor this weekend...Guessing that means they'll be wearing the #21 on the back of the helmet or on the jersey somewhere...

I couldn't see it happening. They will have stickers on their helmets honoring Taylor.
I believe Plummer wanted to honor Tillman by wearing a "41" sticker on his helmet for the whole year, and the NFL wouldn't allow it. Though now they do let teams do it.

That can't possibly be true -- in my eyes, it would be disrespectful to Taylor's memory -- whether it was Portis or any other player. Even if it was done with good intentions, which I'm sure they mean, it wouldn't go off well.

I haven't heard that, but I'd be very surprised if it were true. The league frowns on overt displays of sympathy unless it's team-sponsored and league-approved, and I just don't see them approving it.
If I remember correctly, Jake Plummer wanted to do something similar when Pat Tillman was killed in Iraq, and they ended up vetoing the plan.

I hope not. I have a feeling that would come off as a pretty disrespectful move, even if done with good intentions in mind.
