So much of this story makes me sick. Drew was bragging about her "joke" to others about it before the suicide, the others did nothing. Why was this 14 year olds' Internet habits not monitored? How could Drew be so immature as to get involved in this? Why was Meghan having a flirtation with an unknown boy-where was her common sense?
My 12 year old broke the Internet rules and has been kicked off the Internet FOR A YEAR. Net Nanny has been installed.
Drew broke no laws but I think karma will get her in the end.

That's a tough one.
She did not pull the trigger, but she did everything else.
From what I understand to get the death penalty, the person committing the crime had to what to kill the person. I don't think that Lori had the intent to kill Megan, so I think that her lawyers will be able to get her off.
I do think that she should be let out in general population when she gets into prison though. Not really giving her the death penalty, but the outcome may be the same.
See what happened to Jeffery D.

Oh Hell No.
I'm a big fan of the death penalty.
But I'm also a fan of free speech.
Some neurotic emo chic hangs herself over the loss of a cyber boyfriend, and you think the REAL problem was Lori Drew posing as the boyfriend!?!
Have to agree with bluesfan86, Lori is at worst guilty of being petty. And I'm not even sure of that, Megan may have been an unrestrained nightmare in need of a comeuppance.
The death penalty for verbal harassment!?! Please.
Shall we start shooting YA contributors if a harsh answer sends a marginal moron over the edge?
No one 'forced' Megan to commit suicide. The sentence is a contradiction. If you want to blame someone, let's start with Megan's parents.

Absolutely! She is an adult who messed with a child. She may as well have hung her herself. Certainly she would want justice if this had instead been done to her daughter. Frankly, she should be hung in public.
Some people are responding that suicide is a choice. It's only a choice if you haven't been deceived and are of a stable mind, which this girl was not. Regardless of what reasons she claims to have taken the actions that led up to this, the fact that she meant her harm is clear. At the very least she should be found guilty of intentional man-slaughter. However special circumstances should apply because she preyed on a child.

Maybe not the death penalty, but I think she should be charged with manslaughter for causing poor Megan's suicide.
You know this will end up on Law and Order SVU.

No.
I'm not sure what should happen to her, but I'm sure the rest of her life will be hell in or out of prison.
Something else was going on with this girl that killed herself.
You can bet her parents will always wonder what they could have done to make her talk to them about her problems and feel more secure in herself.
The whole thing is just tragic.

Unfortunately, she can't because there was no law against what she did in Missouri at the time. She will just have to live the rest of her life with everyone hating her guts. Also, everyone should write to their senator and/or state rep to make sure their state passes anti-bullying and anti-cyber-bullying laws, so people can't get away with this stuff in the future. One is already in the works in Missouri.,

It's a damn shame that what she did doesn't break any laws, she will basically, get away with involuntary manslaughter (in my opinion)
However, I think that in a court of law a civil suit would find her liable. I hope The Meiers pursue that avenue.

no, you cannot force anyone to commit suicide. What she did, was help drive an already depressed child over the edge and for that she certainly needs to be held accountable.
