My car hasn't been starting lately so one of my friends came over and look at it today and told me it was because of the battery. The battery had blue stuff all over the top of it and made it impossible to take the battery out of my car. What am i supposed to now and how do i get the battery out?

No one here really has any good advice.
If there is powdery residue around the battery terminals (top terminals) this can be brushed off with a wire brush. You don't need Coca-Cola or baking soda solutions. Remove the cables (spend the $5.00 for a terminal remover-forget the screwdriver. You make removal a snap! Purchase one at a good (not Pep Boys) parts store) and brush it off. And don't hammer on the post-no, it won't make the battery explode, but it will break the post.
If the blue stuff is anything else, it is a type of protector. Just wipe it off. If it is a hard shell, don't worry-it will come off easily when you take off the cables.
If the battery won't come out, you haven't loosened the clamp at the battery's base (usually a 1/2" or 14 mm bolt). Remove the bolt and the wedge -then remove the battery.
If your battery is more than 3 or 4 years old, replace it. Believe it or not, Wal-Mart has the best car battery deal around. Get the 2 year full replacement (it's the middle -priced one). It is an excellent value!
Avoid Pep Boys at all costs! They sell Chinese-made junk. CarQuest and Napa are good.

Baking soda mixed with water to the point of being like a paste , drop this on it and let it sit for a few minutes. Then wash it off with water. You may have to repeat this step a few times, Don`t breath the fumes and don`t worry about the bubbling , be carefull not to get any on your clothing or it will leave holes , It`s mild sulfuric acid. You may need to scrape the last bits off. If the terminals are in good shape you loosen them off and remove your battery. If they are badly corroded it may be better to cut them off the wire and replace them with ones you get at the jobbers. Just make sure you have enough wire or you will have to replace the entire cable.

Water and baking soda will remove the blue stuff.

Make sure the battery posts are clean, the clamps are clean and the clamps are on tight.

Automotive stores sell little round pads that you can put on your battery to help keep this from happening.

I know coca-cola works well if you don't have access to any battery terminal cleaner. Just take a can of coke (or pepsi actually) and pour it on the terminals (wear gloves). Then use a wire brush or steel wool and rub off the build up. I've done it and it worked!

The blue stuff is terminal protector it's to prevent corrision, its normally sticky. To get your battery out you have to take off the battery hold down which can be hidden. and loosen the cables on the battery, and you'll probly need to use a screw driver to wedge the cables off cuz they're probly stuck to the terminal. and you should be able to get the battery out.

after doing all of the above (or having someone else do it), it would be a good idea to get a new battery.
