The gears of capitalism are oiled with the blood of the workers.
Socialism is very misunderstood, especially in America. Everyone has this fear and hatred of it when they understand so very little of it. Soviet Russia was a deformed workers state. Look at scandinavian countries, specifically Norway and Sweden, they are VERY socialistic and they are some of the most productive countries on earth. Basically one big middle class.

Firstly, Hitler was a fascist, but his political affiliation is what is known as National Socialism. It differs from other forms of Socialism, but it is Socialism nonetheless. Secondly, Stalinism, although we use the Communist to describe the Soviet Union, was not actually a Communist state in the true definition of the term. The actual name of the country was the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Pure Communism was their ultimate goal, and they strove to reach it, but Communism (according to Marx) was devoid of government, so you could easily make the argument that Soviet Communists are Socialists as well (just extremely radical Socialists).
The type of Socialism that has flourished in the Western World is what is known as Social Democracy, and/or Democratic Socialism. While the latter is characterized as a shift from Communism to Socialistic Democracy, the former is a shift from pure Capitalism to Socialism. They both, however, seek to achieve the same political goal.
Fascism is not political ideology (per se), but is rather a style of ruling a country -- Capitalists can be fascists, socialists can be fascists, theocracies can be fascist, military oligarchies can be fascist, etc ... Fascism does not necessarily equal Socialism.

For the person who said Hitler had nothing to do with Socialism you have no idea what you're talking about. Read Mein Kampf and then talk to me. Hitler thought Communism needed to be destroyed, and he attacked Social Democrats for being weak willed and "controlled by the Jewish conspiracy."
Hitler was the leader of the Nazi Party, yet most people tend to forget that "Nazi" is just an abbreviation of the full name of the party. The full name of Hitler's party was the National Socialist German Worker's Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei -- NSDAP). Hitler was (very much) a Socialist ... what you have to understand is Socialism involves a broad array of ideological and political movements all revolving around creating a socio-economic system of equality that is administered by the state. You cannot say Communists are Socialists and no one else is ... that just isn't true. Modern Scandinavia is extremely Socialist, as is France, Germany, Britain, and Canada.
Before you can go throwing around a word like "Socialist" you should really attempt to understand what the word means ...

Get rich quick schemes in the capitalist business world, (buyouts, IPOs, conglomerates, acquisitions, mergers, and the stock market), do not actually work. Remaining solvent does not actually exist within false economics capitalism.
Profit existing in the capitalist business world, or millionaires existing within capitalism, is pathological deception committed by the 21 organizations spying on the population with plain clothes agents, (with covert fake names and fake backgrounds).
Actual economics is the persons paying the monthly business loan payments of companies voting at work in order to control the property they are paying for.
Capitalism is the psychology of imaginary parents, false economics, and the criminal deception of employees that are paying the bills (including the stocks and bonds, or shares) of companies.
Anti-democracy republicanism is the psychology of imaginary parents, and false government.

Hitler had nothing to do with socialism and was firmly against it. both hitler and stalin were totalitarian.
Socialism, in its full application does not work. however some of its doctrines have proved to be useful, such as universal health care and equal civil rights

Socialism is an excuse that tyrants use to create a dictatorship. Those who go along with it are trading freedom for security. Any sort of collectivism will require government as the collecting agency, and so it gives government power while taking away individual self-determination.
BTW, I don't think Hitler and Stalin should be excluded from discussion since they both called themselves socialists (look up USSR and Nazi, both contain the word socialist).

It doesn't help anyone, because there's no incentive to work. If I can make the same money being a janitor as a doctor, why would I bust my hump for seven years studying to be a doctor?
The government could, of course, mandate people's jobs based on IQ, but that's communism, which is the next step down from socialism.

Yes!!! I love the notion that society determines how high or low I can go. I love how society determines my wages rather than I. I love how we get to see state run tv and abolish private journalism. I love the notion of govt alloting to me and my family the rations to sustain ourselves. Life is grand under socialistic regime. Bring it on, better than this terrible capialism stuff. That way no rich people exist, and everyones poor!!!

We have socialism now. Your medical cost are high because the health industry charges more to cover the poor and elderly on Medicare. It's a hidden tax. The politicians love it. At least with universal health your cost would be tied to your taxable income.

I think we have many instances of socialism in America that work great.
Public libraries, social security, the interstate highway system, municpal utilities, etc.
But they'll flame you anyway.
