1) 8 ^2/3 = (2^3)^2/3 = 2^2 = 4

2) 32^-3/5 = (2^5)^-3/5 = 2^-3 = 1/(2^3) = 1/8

3) -(81^1/4) = -(3^4)^1/4 = -3

when something is raised by a fractional power you need to do two steps. First is the numerator of the power is used to raise the base to that power, and second the denominator is used to root the base.

So for 1. that would be 8^2=16 then the cube root of 16 which is 4.

Use your calculator to double check.

8^2/3 is the cube root of 8^2, or cube root of 64, or 4.

See if you can do the others.

Hint: 32^-3/5 is 1/(32)^3/5

I'm too lazy to do the work, but I will tell you this. You can't do these kinda of exponents in algebraic format because there is only one step. Just plug these problems into your calculator because you don't need to show any work.
