Well, y=5x^2 is the simplest, but I like:

y = -(1/4)x^6 + (15/4)x^5 - (85/4)x^4 + (225/4)x^3 - (127/2)x^2 + 30x

better.

This table doesn't represent a linear expression. If you graph it, you will *not* get a straight line. So, you can't use a simple expression in the form of y = mx + b to show the relationship. (And the person who thought it was y = 5x obviously didn't check past the first two rows in the table.)

Try y = 5 x^2
(or y = 5 x x )

You can't define something with an example. It's not clear what you really mean.

This seems to be a quadratic function. So, let

y = ax^2 + bx + c

a + b = 5
2a + b = 10

a = 5
b = 0

y = 5x^2
