You hear about thoughs success stories about people(like Benn Affleck And Matt Damon) becoming famous by following their dreams and going for it. How hard or easy do you think it would be to sell everything you have , take the money and go to Beverly Hills or Hollywood? Seriously, what would be some necessary steps to get set up, other than the given, like getting a manager, a hotel or apartment, etc...

Hello (:
Just to let you know.
Do not go to John robert powers acting school.
they will waste all of your money.
it is a complete scam... i've been through it myself.

Necessary Steps:

1.Go to local places to start acting.
2. Have family support you [ big time [
3. Read alot. And practice your memorizing skills.
4. Be driven. Never give up. YOU CAN DO IT. there are possibilities. many many possibilities.

DO NOT flock to beverly hills / hollywood for a career.
you do not want to end up in the streets like most do there.
true statement^.

pick up books and! start reading them.
Breaking into Acting for Dummies is a great book.
A GREAT book. a must read! =D

acting is a cruel, fast-pace, business.
good and bad. often actors have
to have a second job to pay the bills

are you sure you still like acting?

REMEMBER THIS :

Acting is a Business.
no glamour or no fame all the time.
only about 1 percent make it big.
and don't be too confident about being famous.
its acting... an art.

and if you want it bad, you can get it.

Becoming an actor is real easy - get up on stage and act.

Becoming a good actor takes experience, training and a large pinch of passion.

Becoming a successful actor takes the above plus determination, a strong will (to deal with all the rejections) and a clear idea of what you want. Also knowing a few important people can help.

Becoming a famous actor takes all of the above and ramp it up a few more notches. Also throw in a good dose of luck.

And that's if you do it the right way. You may be lucky
- Born into the right family or circle of friends
- Be discovered at complete random by an honest and well meaning agent (very rare these types)
- Walk into the wrong place at exactly the right time (Hey Harrison, drop the hammer and read for the Han Solo guy)
- etc

But these are the exceptions more often than not... Remember one thing - acting is possibly the MOST COMPETITIVE INDUSTRY IN THE WORLD! Making it as an actor is never easy, no matter how many breaks you get. Once you are there, you have to stay there too.

landing a role

90% of all unions are unemployed most of the year

80% of the union people make less than $5,000 a year

A friend of mine started off non union and got non union extra work and made $23,000 a year doing this

then she got her SAG card and could no longer do nonunion extra work and her salary dropped to under $1,000 a yaer because she can only do union work now

An agent will not consider yu if you don't already make $15,000 a year.

With an agent you might make $30,000 a year

After 10 years of union work in film and TV and commercials you might be making $10,000 a year in residuals plus your $50,000 a year in new role income

This is bread and buttter work and few make it to that level.

You will never have a super agent because you make too little and only do day player or week player roles

You are known by people

They often cast you by name

Let's get Seymour Phillip Hoffman for this part.

Ok call his agent and see if he's available (he did a lot of stage and may turn down a two day role in a TV segement)

Hoffman was a bread and buttter actor for 12 years before landing his role in Twister

He was already making $30,000+ year in residuals and proably got a nice deal for Twister

Then comes a once in a lifetime role like Capote and he may have low balled it just to get that role. A lead role.

Then with his Oscar nomination he moved from below the line in Twister to above the line in MI3

He's now a heavy hitter like Tom Cruise

There is a lot of folklore in your answers. What is true is that it is one of the most difficult of all careers to have. But it is possible with talent, looks, and determination. You start where you are, and you may wind up in LA. For more info read my profile and contact me at my aol address. I teach people how to become actors. I do this for free.

Rule #1 I learned in acting: Don't expect to get famous. If that's all you want then you're wasting your time. If you truly have a passion for acting, then you'll find ways to do it whenever/wherever you can. The admiration isn't what's important, it's doing what you love to do.

Luck is simply "Preparation meets Opportunity" - Oprah Winfrey

Take it on step at a time and put everything you have into it and enjoy every second. .. because you will spend most of your time on the journey.

real hard talent for people to actually see that you have it. these days those things dont really happen. most people have to pay for school at acting agencies and a bunch of stuff or somehow be a local celebrity.
