I put this on the rap section, then someone said i was being biased so now i'm putting it on the rock section.

I perfer neither. There both pretty extreme. Rap desrepects women, and Metal disrepects society...I would to find a good medium...But then it might not be 'true rap' of 'true metal'

There ARE mediums: Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Rage Against The Machine, Korn... some might even say Slipknot fits in to the "rap metal" category.
Hey, man... straight gangsta rap and the heavier metal genres, like death metal and black metal are not for everybody. I have heard my share of both (dad was a huge death/speed/black/any metal fan and so have been many boyfriends and so is my husband; known lots of others who were gangsta rap fans) and neither is really for me. I can deal with a little from each but I don't listen to either for extended periods of time. It all starts to sound the same. In other genres, the sound is more varied. In these extreme versions of music, the sound is pretty similar no matter who the artist is.

I think you may be making a mistake classifying gansta rap as true rap. True rap was about battles, not ganstas and street life. But rap, like normal rock is about straight talent, not merely reciting the same lifestyle using the same metaphors. Rock is good because it can get you pumped up in a positive sense without any negative words. If you really want to listen to rap and you want songs that are true to rap try groups like "A Tribe Called Quest" or "2pac." And even though 2pac could be considered gangsta based on things he may have said in some songs, a great deal of his work was positive and even political. I mean he did a song "you wonder why they call you *****," and the song wasn't about degrading women but the way some women act and how it shouldn't be acceptable. Either way, whatever you choose to listen to, be true to yourself and listen to it because you enjoy it, not because you feel you should listen to it.

Metal is questioning the norms of society no so much disrespecting it. Rap on the other hand is in fact disrespecting women. So you want something not as extreme as Death Metal I presume. Try:

Escape the Fate
Motley Crue
Alice In Chains
Chiodos

Listen here I'm a big fan of underground metal, infact I breathe just to live just to listen to metal, and ONLY the underground and I can tell you the metal you listened to is not the "true metal message" there are a lot of underground metal bands that are based on fantasy, dreams, wishes etc. Infact a lot of underground metal bands have a positive message.

Well I can't give you an underground band but a mainstream band worth checking out is of the genre "power metal" and its called...

DragonForce (try them out)

It will change your ideas about metal since most people do not know the many variations of metal

I think you are wrong! Not all metal disrespects society (whatever that means). There are a lot of Christian metal bands such as Beneath the Sky.

I prefer rock but do like a little bit of rap.

well, if you want to explore more into the rap, and hip hop genre, and do not want songs that disrespect women, then try looking for underground, or independant rappers, and hip hop artists like, Immortal Technique, or Saul Williams, murs, sage francis, del the automator, maybe even common, but he's hitting a little more mainstream now a days... so yeah good luck.

Society deserves a dose of disrespect now and then but women don't, besides Metal is more about the music and a feeling that it represents than the literal meaning of the lyrics.

Maybe sometimes you need something violent. I personally can listen to a death metal song than turn around and listen to something from death row records and do a 180 turn and listen to Sade. It depends on how you see music

As far as I'm concerned, good tunes are good tunes, regardless of the lyrics. I think a lot of artists just write about their own experiences and it's unfair to judge the entire genre of artists by what a few of them do.

Metal.
And for you who say metal is just screaming...
They need:
Guitar(Sometimes two of them)
Bass
Drums
And vocals...

Rap is vocals... and studio editting.
Not saying it doesn't take talent.

But don't diss metal. It takes more skill to play guitar then the whole rap process.
I do like some rap though.

(Bring the thumbs down i dont care, it's the truth)
