at 16 with zero street experience.......none. u dont have the 2 most critical survival skills yet. 1 is situational awarnest.....the ability to track, id, and threat prioritize anything and everything that is about to enter or is in ur airspace. 2 is the art of the shotgun stop or the evasion. if u dont have that, u WILL become a hood ornament.

also, have u priced insurance yet? i suggest u do before plunkin 3k on a scoot. u'll find that IF an insurance company will give u insurance, it will be more than the bike is worth....250cc or no 250cc. u even breathe the word 'sport bike', and u will get royally crucified in insurance. hmmmm, ever see what the drunk drivers have to pay to get their license back? that is what u'll get if u say 'sport bike'. from 16-25 is the highest risk....and insurance wont be cheap.

better learn traffic prediction in a car first, or as sure as god makes rain, u wont live to see 17.

Your first concern should be learning to ride. I would suggest take you enroll in a Motorcycle Safety Foundation BRC course for starters. Before investing in a motorcycle you need to find out if you really want to become a motorcyclist. Besides being introduced to basic motorcycle operational skills and risk management principles, you will pick up helpful tips on many things that a non-rider never considers. If you do decide to become a rider the experience will enable you to make better choices in a bike, riding gear, and hopefully behavior and attitude.

You need to get something small and not too powerful. About a 250 to 400cc. You really need to take a motorcycle safety course.
If you can you should start off-road and after you gain some experience then consider street riding.

I can't stress to you enough how dangerous they are. I am 51 years old and have been riding since I was 17. I have had 3 crashes and so many close calls I could not add them up. The problem is cars do not see you. If you start riding, take your time, go slow, get some training.

Crashing on ANY motorbike hurts. It makes no change at the motorbike. Circumstances of any crash are going to be exclusive. Mostly pace, when you hit whatever together with your frame, and what safeguard gear you're dressed in. True tale. I had a buddy soar a reduce with a road / path motorbike doing approximately forty five MPH. He did a superman over the handlebars and took out a fifteen MPH pace prohibit signal on a 4X4 put up together with his face. Fortunately, he was once dressed in an entire face helmet. He simplest broke each kneecaps going over the handlebars. It would were a lot worse. This man wasn't driving a game motorbike and nonetheless flew face first. Keep the glossy facet up.

You're not going to like this answer. You should not get any bike at your age. Street bikes are exceedingly dangerous - If I had one at 16 I would be dead, not two ways about it, because you simply aren't responsible enough to ride safely. You probably aren't even responsible enough in your early 20's either, but you can make your own decisions then.

Try dirt bikes and see how you like it, and its good practice for street bikes.

If you live near an area where you can go out in the country I would suggest a used Dual Sport Bike. One where you can enjoy city and off road use. they are inexpensive and cheap to insure than a regular sport bike, maybe even cheaper than the 250 Ninja. I would start off road to learn how to drive ,usually dirt is softer than concrete or asphalt.

Nothing street legal. Stay on the dirt until you know how a motorcycle operates. You couldn't afford the insurance anyway.

Take the MSF - then decide once you have that experience!

The Ninja 250 would be a good starter - but learn to ride first....

a ninja 250 is a very good bike to start.. if you have NO experience with any kind of motorbike (dirtbike, street bike, scooter, etc) then a 250 is good.

um.. the '08 bikes are pretty nice lookin... look into them..
