has anyone had first hand experience with keeping red tailed sharks (or similar that you would recommend instead) with blind cave tetras? it will be in a 10gallon tank that is going to be well planted and with plenty of hiding spaces, so keep anything besides red tailed sharks within that tank size please.

please note, I've done research and I'm still doing some, so if you don't have first hand experience don't both answering because I can do my own research.

also, I'm reading really really opposite opinions n tank size, some say 10gallon or more others says no less than 50gallons. so if you have an opinion please do share (without lecturing, I'd never plop it in without doing plenty of research on what is really okay) and explain yourself.

peetee, I've found many, the general answer is 4.5inches although 2 of them have said 6inches and 3 have said 3inches. so no, it doesn't answer any of my questions or I wouldn't have asked.

yeah, I know... I'm not a novice. the blind cave tetras get to be 3.5, not small enough to eat, thanks for all the help though :\

thanks soop. lol I actually hate loaches plus I want just one for a centerpiece fsih. I've read a few stories that said there was a little aggression at first until the blind cave tetras learned where the red tailed shark claimed then they where fine. 2 of these cases were in 10g and one in a 25g.

I had a Rainbow Shark (EXTREMELY similar in every way) to Red Tailed Sharks (which WILL reach 4.5+ inches), and I certainly wouldn't recommend them for a 10 gallon tank... As they mature, they become quite aggressive towards ANYTHING in the tank, and it certainly wouldn't be out of the ordinary for a Blind Cave Tetra to fall victim to its "fury"... Maybe consider 3 Dwarf Chain Loaches, which have a similar(ish) body shape to the Shark, but a bit more active, smaller, and just as personable... The Tetra would be a bit sketchy, so hopefully somebody else can shed some light on that aspect...

EDIT: The Shark will absolutely not eat the Tetra, just beat the crap out of it... Red Tailed Sharks have very small mouths, not to mention, they are herbivores...

EDIT 2: Lol, I was thinking the fish with no eyes was a pretty good fit for the centerpiece position...

Can you find a web site that gives the adult size of a Red Shark? That will answer your question.

Pee Tee hit something right on center...the fish sizes... or more directly the size of the predator's mouth... if it is big enough he will eat the smaller fishes...
