the first few months when i got my baby turtle, it was eating fine and swimming and looked healthy. i bought a filter, water heater, light, basking dock. it used the basking dock all the time. but all of a sudden one day it just sleeps, doesnt eat,and doesnt bask on the dock anymore. i have another turtle in the tank also that seems ok. i dont want to take it to the vet because i ran out of money. today i purchased the reptisafe
water conditioner and i wondering if maybe the chrlorine in the water hurts its eyes and maybe thats the problem. i have resaerched the internet and found a few other people
with turtles of similar symptoms but all of them have different opinions and i dont know what to believe.

Do you have both a heat lamp and a UVB lamp? They must have both to survive. The heat lamp needs to provide heat that reaches a basking temperature in the low to mid 90'sF, and the UVB bulb must be one made for reptiles that is full spectrum. It must be within 12 inches of the basking spot and on for 12 hours a day. Change the UVB bulb every 6 months as they lose potency rather quickly. Be sure to do frequent water changes and definitely use the reptisafe, as chlorine and chloramines can be harmful to them. Tank size needs to be about 10 gallons for every inch of turtle living in it.

I bet that you are keeping it too cold. If you will keep it about 80-85F then it will be more active, will eat more, and will grow faster. Once it is a few months old it won't matter too much what temp it is kept at but right now it should be warm so it gets over its baby problems. I doubt that anyone at Petco will know anything about turtles but it won't hurt i suppose.

don't worry because i think it's just a temperature problem...

Turtles aren't really lively when it's winter/cold... so until it gets warm they really don't move around much but once it gets warm again they will be lively :D...

Try keep your turtle warm by rapping a newspaper around the (wherever your turtle lives in..) turtles also like light.. (MORE LIKE NEED LIGHT.. i mean sun light or you can yose UCD light or w.e)
Also try feeding your turtle shrimps :D they really love it... and if my suggestions don't work out for you call the vet :3

BTW (your talking about red-eared-slider turtles right?

Kimbee is right, you need to get the temperature back up to where it belongs.
Lethargy is usually caused by low temps.
