The symbolism for this wonderful cartoon centers around "pursuit of happiness" and what we all do. That is what makes it so enjoyable.
He cannot catch the roadrunner any more than we can catch happiness. The fun is in the chase. And no matter how many times things don't work out, we get ourselves up and get back in the race.......or the chase.....
I like to think the E stands for Engineer......lol

I hope when they decide to end this classic cartoon, the roadrunner will become road kill in the (obviously) last episode. Acme stock will go thru the roof!!
E stands for Ed

No, then the show would have no point.
Wile E. Coyote is just "wiley coyote" which just means that the coyote is tricky and sneaky.

It's a play on the word wiley. And if he has the money to buy all that Acme junk, why didn't he just buy some food?

He has. The only problem was that the roadrunner was huge and he was tiny.
