So it is easy to see, factor out the (48/12) so you have (48/12)(b^6/b^2). Now you just need to divide. (48/12) is 4, and (b^6/b^2) is b^4, because of the rule of exponents that says when dividing, minus the powers (6-2 =4). The answer is 4b^4.

48 and 12 have a common divisor, 12 so 48/12 = 4;

b^6/b^2 is the same as b^(6 - 2) = b^4,

therefore 48b^6/12b^2 = 4b^4

48b^6/12b^2
4*12*b*b*b*b*b*b / 12*b*b (factor)
4*b*b*b*b (cancel out the 12's and two b's from each side)
4b^4 (this is what you are left with)

48b^6 /12b^2

48/12=4
when you divide with exponents , subtract exponents
b^6 /b^2=b^4

answer is 4b^4
