Juice -- even 100% juice -- is totally unnecessary for anyone and mostly made of sugar. Nutritionally it is more bad than good. Your baby has no need for it at all. If you want to give the baby juice -- most people do, it's not like it's terrible -- try diluting it with about one half water, and then at about 6 - 8 months old. There's really no reason to have your baby fill up on what amounts to sugar water.

You can introduce juice as early as 3 months old (watered down of course). It really depends on the baby, though, whether or not his or her system will agree with it. If not, try it again later. By 6 months the baby should definitely be able to drink juice and even eat single grain cereal.

Everyone is different. With both of mine, I did some of the same things my mom did with me. Hey, I made it, right? No food allergies, no obesity, and in good health. I guess since then, baby-raising "rules" have changed, but I do what I do. I gave juice (1/2 water) in 4oz bottles to both my sons by around 5 months old. Only one bottle about 1-2 times a week. But they were also eating baby rice cereal by that time. Neither of them are obese, or have food allergies, or any other health problems due to feeding them foods at a 'young age'. Now, my youngest is 9 months old and eating a lot of the same foods I am, just smaller, mashed up portions (no milk though), and he's in very good health. As long as your baby gets enough formula to get his/her essential vitamins, nutrients, etc.

I would stay away from juice until at least 6 months. Even then it needs to be dilluted with water, and shouldn't even be given every day - just as a treat. Toddlers who drink juice a lot, rot their teeth and get funny marks on their teeth. There is no need for them to have juice unless they are extremely dehydrated after being sick. Water is the best option for non-milk drinks.

My ped says to wait until 6 mos., it can be watered down. I was also told not to give juice in a bottle b/c of tooth decay. We started with water and plan on giving juice after 6 mos. and when he is drinking water and milk from a cup well. Good luck!

5 months old is when their bodies are ready for Juices. But Juice is something that they really dont need. A baby really only needs milk the first year of their life. Juice is something that should be given as a treat. why get them used to something that is sweet and really is unessary. thats just my oponion!! hope all goes well for you and your little one.

My daughter is 14 months and hasn't had juice yet. There's not reallly much good to it. Their tummies are so little for a few years that everything you give them should be superfood or drink. If you'd like to give your baby a sippy cup of anything after 6 months of only breastmilk/formula, stick with water.

Occasional juice (100% juice, no sugar added, watered-down) is fine after 1 year.
