There was a recent report out by the Iraqi government that sectarian voilence was down some 76% over the last years estimate. While I dont know how valid this is, it is hopefully a step in the right direction.

Also, the Iraqi government has failled on nearly all of the benchmarks set forth by the US government for its progress report last month.

The troop surge seems to be helping slightly, but to what effect? Basically, Iraq is much the same as it was last year. Minimal progress, but at least there is progress.
