Pink tourmaline use to be mined in the Pala area but I understand the mines have been closed for some time. I'm not sure if there are other mines currently in operation, but I bet I know where you could get that information. Check with the San Diego Mineral and Gem Society or the Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Society which is based out of the Fallbrook Gem and Mineral Museum. Here's a link you can use for more information. http://www.sdnhm.org/research/mineralogy/minfaq.html

I've never heard of that? But there is a PALA Casino? Maybe its around there, as PALA is tucked in the hills off some beaten path? Here I just found it for you, and when you're there, stop off at the casino it's right there:

I saw the show tonight about that(tourmaline) on the travel channel. Pala is out by the wild animal park. The witch fire (the huge fire)went through there last month but that mine will be fine! If you go out that way since there isn't much out there, you should also try to go to a stop nearby called Bates nut farm. And if you want to go further and stay in Julian, there is a big cool house called Corgi's castle. Look into it for sure!
