First of all, a change of attitude would be nice. Frustrations will get you nowhere, ditto with being demanding. Relax and take a breather. This isn't discrete mathematics or algebraic topology.
Define those terms first, federalism, popular "sovereignty", etc, if you can't define it yourself, how in the world are you going to find examples that deal with them.
I'll give you one example, the whole notion of checks and balances was to prevent one branch of government to become supreme or too powerful. I think Bush just vetoed a bill passed by the House (mostly supported by the Democrats) to improve our nation's health care and education system. He said it was just one of the Democrats pet project and too costly, but he woudn't mind spending billions of dollars to what it seems to be an unwinnable war in Iraq. My liberal leanings aside, I think we recently have a new attorney general. I forgot who it was, anyway, Bush nominated him and he was confirmed by the Senate. I think that's still considered a current event. G'luck and hope you'd be able to the rest yourself.

Federalism: The Federal Government imposing on the States a health insurance bill for children.
Popular Sovereignty: Iraq should govern itself, not be under the thumb of the USA.
Separation of Powers: The Executive Branch approved wire taping of certain telephone conversations, which some people believe is not within the scope of its authority.
Checks and Balances: Congress asserts that the Executive Branch does not have the authority to authorize wire taping.
I don't know if this is right.

Please copy, each of the following four lines, including the quotations marks, one at a time, in any of the search engines available. You will get thousands of hits:
"current events" "popular sovereignty"
"current events" federalism
"current events" "separation of powers"
"current events" "checks and balances"
Your search string, "current events on popular soverignty", is too specific. You also misspelled, sovereignty, which would result in misses.

dude i had this same problems but if you read your book you'll kind of understand what its all about and then you can go to CNN.com and search for government current news. But i feel bad for you so I'll give you a free bee. Checks and balances are still going on today because branches still check up on each others work and progress.

With FEDERALISM: gay marriage. Some states have or want to recognize gay marriages while at the federal level this is oppossed. Also, medicinal marijuana: some stes permit it but federal agents can a do shut down these clinics. Both instances show a collision between federal law/authority and local ordinances.

I remember that S.S. unit.
Federalism-think of laws pertaining to states and the country
Popular soverignity-elections
separation of powers-look for the lawmaking process
Checks and balances-again look for the lawmaking process.
By any chance, are you in the history alive textbook chapter 8-10? seems like it.
I hate current events, so I'm all sympathy.

I think immigration reform deals with all of these issues. Federalism: it is the federal governments duty to protect our boarders, popular sovereignty: American's want the right to protect themselves from illegal invasions from immigrants especially citizens in boarder states, Separation of powers: is it the States job or the Federal governments job the local police or the boarder patrol, checks and balances the people are a branch of our government represented by the Congress and the people have spoken to check the executive and judicial branches of government to enforce our boarder laws.

You can talk about the new political climate over in Venezuela with Hugo Chavez as president. That covers a couple of your pointers.
