It's one foot, a linear foot is equivalent to 12 inches.

Lineal has to do with your line of ancestory, what you mean is linear, which means straight line.

I have two answers for you.

1. square feet / width in feet = linear feet

A "linear foot" is just a "foot" when used to measure certain things.
I think this is more what you were looking for.

This unit is used for pricing a product that does not have standard
lengths. For instance, a store might sell you a 10-foot-long strip
of carpet (Astroturf) for 10 dollars, or a 12.34-foot-long strip of it
for $12.34, etc. They would advertise this product's pricing as one
dollar per linear foot (lin. ft.). Mostly I see this kind of pricing
at do-it-yourself supply stores. Other product examples are lumber
that is not pre-cut to standard lengths, and prefab kitchen countertop
that they cut just long enough to fit the width of your kitchen.

i hope that was what you were looking for. =] THANKS!

A lineal foot is just a foot, people use the term lineal to show its not a square foot or a cubic foot

There's 1 foot in 1 linear foot.
To buy the length of fencing you need, you need the length of the perimeter of the area you wish to fence off.
158ft² could be 15.8ft x 10ft.
Then you will have ....
2 sides at 15.8ft and 2 sides at 10ft = 51.6 linear feet of fencing.

Assuming it is a rectangluar area,
You need a length times width that equals 158
like w=2, l=79
Then to find the amount of fence (linear feet). just add 2 lengths to 2 widths
For the l and w that I picked
2+2+79+79=162 linear feet of fence

A linear foot is a foot of length.

Area is length times height, so if you need 158 sq ft of fencing, you need to divide that by the height of the fence to get the length.

That's LINEAR. And you can't tell without knowing how tall the fence is as well. But it's likely going to be between 17 and 20 ft long.
