Basically meaning the country paid far too much, for far so little in return...

Robert G (below) I take into account 6 years since OBL attacked the US (still free) couples with four years of blunder, death, and carnage in Iraq. This is long enough for anyone to make a determination.

Your version of "long haul" seems sort of like staring at a knife wound and wondering how long it will take for the blood to stop suirting out of it.

(no offense)

I am a true conservative, and I have no idea what we are doing in Iraq. After all, didn't 15 of the 19 hijackers come from Saudi Arabia? I don't remember any of them coming from Iraq.

Saddam might have been a ruthless dictator, but we put him in power and there are many other countries throughout the world that have dictators who are worse than Saddam ever was.

SO to answer your question, yes you could equate it to making a really bad investment.

That is the biggest reason I am against it.

I mean, what do I care if Sadaam Hussein got the shaft? Screw him; he was a genocidal wack-job. What difference would it make to me if Wackjobmedinijad in Iran ended up as shark-bait? None whatsoever.

However, there are correct ways to go about these things and then there is the Evangelical Christian Cowboy from Texas, on-the-take from oil companies and weapons manufacturers way to go about these things. I agree 100% with Alan Greenspan when he says that the war in Iraq would not have been so bad, nor would have ended up dragging on so long if the government had just been straight up with the people from day 1: we are going over here to steal these people's natural resources.

Then of course, the country would have to come to terms with being thieves and murderers....whatever, the Roman's could deal with it and I think Americans are probably made of sterner stuff than the ancient Italians. Maybe we could have dealth with it too. But no...

We get all this pandering to ignorant Christians about how we're fighting an evil dictator and we get all this crap for the "flag-waving crowd" about how we are fighting for freedom and democracy. Pfeh...

So then, due to improper scope of work from the onset, the US is paying trillions to cover up the mistakes of a priveledged, punk-@ss little rich kid from Texas...

Over a trillion dollars to destroy a nation is certainly a bad investment. On another point, Al Qaeda was a two bit group of only 200 or so members in 2000. These wars, which seem to destroy everything BUT Al Qaeda, have been an enormous recruitment tool for them. Now, instead of 200 members, there are thousands, and it grows faster than we kill it. Ironic that the easiest way to torpedo Al Qaeda recruitment is for us to leave!

Edit: caesarwasgay compares Iraq to Vietnam. Yeah, that sounds about right.

It depends on who's perspective you are seeing it from. Dick was C.E.O. of Haliburton Corp. before his nomination to V.P.. since the war started his personal bank account went from 1.17 mil. to 60-70 mill. The Bushes ordered bomb of all the oil refineries to stop imports and drive up the cost of domestic oil in which they are Moguls of. Great investment for what Eisenhower called the great military industrial machine (private war manufacturers and and contractors like Black Water, war profiteers).

Great investment for politicians and cottage industries, bad investment for the American people.

Is it starting to make sense why Cheney and Rumsfeld fabricated this whole story of weapons of mass destruction.

Hell most people think were there because of 911.

Ignorance must be bliss.

It's funny how easy we are debating about this subject, attacking and invading a country, killing over 700,000 of it's citizens, install a puppet Gov. , steal their wealth, and we casually call it investment?! Or like one guy mentioned Long Hull investment?! Could we call ourselves the best of the best? we have got to were we are now by theses kinds of act of terrorism?! Is there any honor in that? why are we so proud of being good criminals? It does make me embarrass some times, is that the only thing I'm good for??
We are like beggars, begging for our needs, from some third world countries as we call them? That should make us a forth world country or what?

Regards.

Are you kidding? For politicians, this was a GREAT investment!!!!

Keeps the two big globs of goo in power, divides our nation into two factions that support one side or the other, uses up some of our poor people... We're an ADD nation, and need faster stimulous of who are enemies are or might be! Otherwise, we might start THINKING or something... how AWFUL that would be.

There you go again Chi Guy, investments are for the long haul... The future is when we will learn the answers.

One would also have to look at the poor investment Clinton made by not taking Bin Laden when he had the chance... 9-11 costed how much?

according to your logic I don't have to start investing in my retirement until I am 48. I understand your logic but using an investment mentality was the wrong way to go about it.

Wow, so you want investments?

Well first place a dollar figure on your personal freedom.

Mine is absolutely priceless

now multiply that by 25 million and what a price.

Seems like a damned fine investment to me

The fact remains we are going to stay in Iraq until the job is done. Whether you support the war or not, if you do not support our troops you don't belong in our country.

I would not even call it an investment of any kind. It is more akin to literally burning all of your money for nothing or even flushing it down the commode.
