What are the channels to buy shares in S'pore?

I'm keen to start buying shares but what are the channels? I know there are Poems etc but dont really understand how it works. Is there commission payable for buying or only selling?

You can open a brokerage account, & do it yourself. Or you can call a broker, and have him/her do it for you. There are commissions for both buying & selling.
