In the age of computers and huge health insurance companies that records your health from birth to death, the invention of readily available non-emergency medical centers (aka doc in a box), and the vast available doctors in any large market ... is there any reason to have a ralationship with any one doctor anymore?

Ah...-Wouldn't you rather hear it from a kindly Doctor that you had a terminal illness... -INSTEAD of recieving a Medical Bill that said, "This is to inform you of your Imminent Decease; please Pay within 6 weeks. Thank You." ??! Methinks we're going to need the "humanity" of Doctors for a LONG TIME yet... :)

Yes, seeing 1 doc on a regular basis just makes sense. This doctor will know you when you have new medical issues. Especially as you get older and may need more medications, it's better to have one doc who can make adjustments and monitor your health.

I believe so, in fact I have relationships with a few doctors. I want someone who specializes in what they do - doctors are not all created equal and they don't all know all the answers. i was almost killed by one that you refer to as a "doc in a box" who neglected to read the drugs I was taking before prescribing one with a known interaction! It is good to have one that knows you really well and who will look out for what is best for you.
